Tailing the Komets

Komets sign two

The Komets announced Wednesday that former Port Huron Icehawk forwards Derek Patrosso and Brandon Naurato have agreed to terms and will be in a Fort Wayne uniform when the puck drops on 2010-11.

Patrosso, 25, will be entering his third pro year after skating the last two campaigns with the Icehawks in Port Huron.  Last year the right winger ranked second in Port Huron scoring with a career high 70 points in 71 games netting 30 goals and passing 40 assists while earning 94 penalty minutes.  Patrosso was one of the leaders of the Icehawk's special teams posting 20 power play points (8g, 12a) and two short-handed goals while completing the season with a plus-16.

Naurato, 25, made his pro debut last season appearing in five ECHL games with Toledo before joining Port Huron.  The skater scored 25 goals, 46 points and 38 penalty minutes and topped the Icehawks with 11 power play goals.  Before turning pro, the Livonia, Michigan native was a member of the University of Michigan Wolverines in the NCAA for four years from 2005-2009.

Patrosso and Naurato skated all seven Port Huron playoff games against the Komets in the first round last year.  Naurato scored two goals and six points in his pro playoff debut while Patrosso registered two goals and three points in post-season play.

i'm an A/V geek, 3 years, 2 years secretary and treasurer of the A/V Club! And my senior year the last musical i was head A/V geek(it had a special name, i've just forgotten), got to sit in a chair and do nothing!

p.s. i still have my A/V Stage Crew T-shirt, the shirt is almost 30 years old!

all right, the rest of you come clean, come on Monkey, how many years for you?

they didn't have A/V let alone electricity in Schebigs day, so we know he is safe.

back to tanning, beautiful day.

So many things have become more clear.

But according to Wendy's "scenario", it still sounds like the A/V got at least some before the skank decided to spread herself to the quarterback next, so it seems like all are happy... at least until they start feeling the burn...

OK, I'll admit it...AV Club all four years of high school.

However, my Senior year I was also the manager of both the football and basketball teams. B-Ball team went 24-3...even now still the best record in school history.

No AV Club T-shirt, they did'nt offer those.

The question is.... Does Burgee's shirt still fit?

Steve
Thu, 07/01/2010 - 8:12pm

Agreed Alan.

No wonder people on here get offended when it is suggested they put on the skates and play some before judging the players. A/V? Ha ha ha ha, he he he he. We use to eat those guys for breakfast and take their fantasies to the prom.

OK, seriously, I'm not sure the school I went to even had an A/V club.

JM- the answer is NO the shirt hasn't fit for years (Burgee's). I was in the AV club. Played football, baseball. I was also in the Choir and did South Pacific & Carousel. Never got the T-shirt. Just a piece of paper that said I didn't need to go to school anymore. I think they were trying to tell me something. Took the paper and said hello to Uncle Sam's Army.

Just came from our birthday party, we're 143 years old today. That makes you guys and girls 234 years old on Sunday. (hope my math is ok, had a few nogs). Yeah we were only born in 1867. Good to be where we are from, North or South of the 49th. We can still talk about what we want. Agree or disagree. Ain't it great. Be well everyone. Go Komets..... and god bless their fans.

Raise your hand if you love Schrocky, and would love to have him back as a Komet next season....

What if he goes to the ECHL?

How would that look for the "IHL playing under the CHL Moniker" if our hometown hero chose against the Frankes and the Komets and went for the very league that the Frankes chose against?

I would say that would be a huge kick in the sack. Wouldn't you?

How would the Kool-aid drinkers spin that news?

I hope Schrocky is a Komet....but what if? He has 3 offers from ECHL teams on the table.

Could we live with him playing for K-Zoo next season?

I for one would be PO'd....straw that breaks Frankes back?

Blog foul running komet! That is close to getting us in trouble.

The shirt was once too small, but now into my 3rd year of summer dieting, I'm down 75 pounds and the shirt is way to big. Maintaining 80 pounds down is this summers target!

Here is the kicker that I left out earlier, not only was I an A/V nerd but I was also the offensive MVP in football my senior year.

Now how does that befuddle wendys statement.

I'm thinking of a line out of the movie "the Rock" right now.

Blog foul on Wendy too for picking on us defenseless nerds, you must bake cookies for all bloggers this summer! Skip cooking mine I want the dough.

Hmmm... on Schrock...
How about he might like a chance to travel to places he hasn't been before?
How about the ECHL teams might have offered him more money?
How about maybe his choice to leave could be for other personal reasons that we'd never know about

None of these things would mean anything negative against the Komets or the league they play in.... unless you get your kicks by spinning things negative at nearly every opportunity.

Snuff, you are the man.

Let me just say, you should be the new Commish of the IHL under the CHL moniker. You can spin like no other.

Couldn't Kaleigh travel to new places in the CHL Moniker League?

ECHL has a lower Salary Cap.

We shouldn't know about any personal reasons, you are correct.

If Schrock turns down a Komet offer to go the ECHL.....well, that is oddly ironic.

Didn't the Frankes turn down the ECHL? That league would mean higher prices because of what, more travel??? Really? More than the CHL Moniker?

You are the man Snuff.

Mike in Toronto
Thu, 07/01/2010 - 11:13pm

Why would Kaleigh leave to go to a league that should be equal? More money? How much more? He is a star in the place he always wanted to play. Unless someone breaks the bank KLS is not going anywhere.
And as far as travel to new places, road trips get really old after the first rotation. It's like the movie Ground Hog day all winter.
Kaleigh took advantage of a great opportunity in FW. Home town, he had pressure, but he also had enormous support.
Go somewhere else, play a few bad games and oh oh.
I hope he is smart enough to stay, I know the Frankes are smart enough to keep him, but not at all costs.

Watch out, Snuff will rip you to shreds for that opinion Mike.

I agree, Schrock should stay.

But will he? Can the ECHL steal him from us?

Wendy

No, no, you misunderstand me. I guess I just assume that everyone realizes that I'm a complete geekette myself, so when I use the term "AV geek", I'm doing so affectionately. As it happens, my first real love was an AV geek. We were both on the staff of the school newspaper. He wrote and directed a student film (comedy) that made it to a state level competion in Indianapolis. It was some of the most brilliant amateur filmmaking I've ever seen. I think he works for a TV station in Chicago now. Not sure.

Now back to hockey.

I, for one, wouldn't be surprised if Schrock did go to the ECHL. He's a good player who leaves it all on the ice, and guys like that usually dream of something more. One can't deny that players in that league get more exposure. Please note that I'm not saying there is no chance he could move up from here, but being the ECHL does make it more likely. Not saying it's fair; that's just the way it is.

Speaking of Shrock, this reminds me of the LeBron James situation. Two choices, stay loyal to your hometown, or go somewhere where you'll make more cash and have the potential to become something better. In LeBron's situation, if all I wanted to do is to win, I'd leave. Cleveland just simply doesn't have the money to bring players in to help him win a championship. In Schrock's situation, I'd be going to the ECHL. A chance to be in the actual NHL farm system, that's a no brainer. There's more call-ups from the ECHL than any other AA league combined, and you can take that to the bank. There's a lot better chance to get called up and you'll make more money, although salary cap hasn't been discussed yet with the SnuffaHL. I'm thinking the Frankes are waiting to sign players, then discuss the salary cap.

Be careful, Mr. "Snufflupugus" (Snuffleupagus). People on here in the past have been pretty snappy when you try to help them with stupid spelling errors or a complete lack of knowledge for anything remotely grammatically correct. However, there are others who will just constantly make excuses for their mistakes and try to support their ignorances. Probably my favorite excuse is that "this is just a blog so it doesn't matter." In any event, ignorance is usually entertaining. Hell, look at the success of blogs as proof for that point :)

(Please excuse all spelling and grammar errors in the above post.)

Chaulk headed for Italy,, That sucks!!

Harbz
Fri, 07/02/2010 - 7:17am

Losing Chaulker is a huge blow the K's, not only on the ice, but all of the intangibles he brings to the table. He's been the heart and soul of the team the entire 7 seasons he has been here. A true leader in every sense of the word. He will be greatly missed! Best wishes to you and your family Colin!

With Chaulker gone and the possible retirement of Guy in the balance, there will possibly be a huge change in the on-ice leadership of the team. Plus, seeing Chaulk, Bertram, and Shaf all departing, this could this possibly be the beginning of the end of the solid core the team has been built around for the past several seasons.

Not trying to be a Negative Nellie or all Doom & Gloom...just a thought.

Puck Bunny
Fri, 07/02/2010 - 8:25am

the Franke's are making a HUGE mistake of letting Chaulk go ... this "low" balling the vets who have been the core of this team for the past years is ridiculous!! ... Am certainly not regretting the non-renewal of our season tickets ..... URGH!!! Very disappointed!

Yawn..... I love pissing off those who spend their entire lives being pissed off. And judging by the fact that the pissing has now been sent in my direction, I can see I have done my job well.

Mike in T.O.... (have the parades down Bay Street started for the Colby Armstrong era yet?)
Your post is actually correct. I do hope he is smart enough to stay. But as you can see from some of the blog postings, brains are optional equipment for hockey players and fans alike.

Schrock will do what he wants and unless I missed where he was being compared to Gretzky somewhere, his choices will not mean anything in the grand scheme of things.
However, for those who like to continue to make up reasons to bash, moan, groan, whine, complain, expect the sky to fall.... it will mean everything. I am sure if he stays someone will find a way to spin that negative...hmmmm....
The Franke family can get local players cheaper and the roster spot taken by Schrock could have gone to someone more talented but that player would cost more so the Frankeeees must be cheap....
See how easy that is?

MR SNUFFLUPUGUS
Fri, 07/02/2010 - 10:02am

And I for one am glad to see Chaulk go....
Low balling? Puck Bunny do you have any facts to back that statement up? How much should they pay him? A million? Those teams in Europe can often pay players more than teams here can.
Chaulk is a great player. But several people I have spoken with (since everyone else can have sources so can I) have told me that Chaulk has always been about the $$. I am sure the team made him a fair offer and I don't blame them one bit for not overpaying for a mid 30's hockey player.
You people complain about stale boring hockey but you want the same stale players back year after year......

"What do you mean by YOU people?"

Anyone know why the IHL went the CHL way and not the ECHL way? We can stop with the travel expense argument because it just doesn't hold any water. Was the CHL willing to put up with the drama more than the ECHL?

Mr Extinct Elephant, don't take this wrong, but I know you will, I would advise that you don't go to any other blogs that talk about the IHL/CHL. I think you'll be spending a lot of time defending, actually most of your time if not all, what you've been so animatedly defending on this one. You think people are negative on here, whew, you don't know what you're missin'. Just sayin'.

What makes you guys think this was all about the almighty dollar? To me, it sounds like he was making a family and career move. He wants to get into coaching and teaching...where is he going to do that here? His options are limited here compared to the options in hockeycrazed Toronto. I'm a structural engineer living in FW...if I really wanted to advance my career and design skyscrapers I would have to move to New York or Chicago...places that have big skyscrapers...places that have bigger and more opportunities to achieve my goal. Plus, he's from Toronto...and there is a lot to be said for moving your young family back closer to their grandparents and other family members. As a person I'm happy for Colin and his family, but as a fan I am saddened that I won't get to see him on the ice in the orange and black. He's always been the epitome of a leader, first class person, and talented hockey player.

Harbz...
You are very right about the money not being the main issue in this case though it has been in his past. Anyone who read his comments would know that. Of course that doesn't stop the Franke haters from using it as a chance to bash.
Rob I am well aware of the trash on the other blogs. Being friends with the owner of this one gives me the desire to see that the crap that is allowed and even encouraged on those blogs is kept off of this one.
People like Puck Bunny have no business here making wild uninformed statements that serve no other purpose but to bash the Komets ownership and organization.
This blog has always been better than that.

Rob
Fri, 07/02/2010 - 11:52am

On with the sausage grinding - "trash on the other blogs" Don't you think that's an elitist attitude? That somehow you're better than everyone who doesn't like the Franke ownership?

"kept off of this one" This kind of habit inhibits any forward thinking. If people want to voice their opinion they have the right to do so, and no one has the right to silence them, not even you.

No one voted you the blog police, nor were you appointed, so please stop acting like it. I know you're an avid Franke-orange-kool-aid-drink-loving person. You reserve that right, and that's alright. But don't try to use a chauvanist attitude and tell people that they can't tell the Frankes where to stick it either. I'm not trying to attack you but I just think people should be able to come on here say their piece without others trying to shut them up because they don't like what they're saying. Snarky comments back, however, are entertaining.

God, do we hockey or what?
