Tailing the Komets

Komets sign two

The Komets announced Wednesday that former Port Huron Icehawk forwards Derek Patrosso and Brandon Naurato have agreed to terms and will be in a Fort Wayne uniform when the puck drops on 2010-11.

Patrosso, 25, will be entering his third pro year after skating the last two campaigns with the Icehawks in Port Huron.  Last year the right winger ranked second in Port Huron scoring with a career high 70 points in 71 games netting 30 goals and passing 40 assists while earning 94 penalty minutes.  Patrosso was one of the leaders of the Icehawk's special teams posting 20 power play points (8g, 12a) and two short-handed goals while completing the season with a plus-16.

Naurato, 25, made his pro debut last season appearing in five ECHL games with Toledo before joining Port Huron.  The skater scored 25 goals, 46 points and 38 penalty minutes and topped the Icehawks with 11 power play goals.  Before turning pro, the Livonia, Michigan native was a member of the University of Michigan Wolverines in the NCAA for four years from 2005-2009.

Patrosso and Naurato skated all seven Port Huron playoff games against the Komets in the first round last year.  Naurato scored two goals and six points in his pro playoff debut while Patrosso registered two goals and three points in post-season play.

Rob I think they are looking for you over at the Finish the Choking forums?

chauvanist attitude? Umm listen honey dear, Puck Bunny was her nickname, not what I called here.

Sorry sweetie you'll have to try harder. People have the right to say what they want and so do I and if people are going to turn this board into a trashing of the Komets and Komets ownership you can bet they are going to get an computer screen full of it from me.
Don't like it? Go back to FYC or ITB or the other blog in town where that sort of sewage is wallowed in.
I have no problem with anyone telling the Frankes where to stick it. Do you know the best way to do that? Shut the bleep up and stop paying attention to them or spending your money with them! Then you can bet us high and mighty corporate sponsors would be knocking on the owners door asking why our advertising is not bringing in the results it used to with attendance down.

I don't mind being called the board police or being the subject of talk on the other boards. I have very thick skin and nothing in cyberworld is going to puncture it.
Have a sweet honey day ;)

Just a thought, but maybe Blake should shut this down for a week or two and let some of our bloggers chill a while then open it back up after we get some CONCRETE INFORMATION! Your thoughts?

I sure hate to see Colin go. The team will miss him, fans will miss him, and youth hockey will miss him. However it would seem the time is right to make a move so I wish him well, success, good luck, and good health. And who knows, he may be back someday in a capacity other then player/asst. coach?

Tim, wasn't it two years ago the New-Sentinel shut it down for awhile because things go out of hand, at least language wise?

Perhaps we need to give some thought to what the difference is between a privately ran forum and a blog furnished by a newspaper. Even being aware of the difference between a blog and a forum might be a step in the right direction but since the tradition here seems to be to allow it to run more like a forum the difference between the two is probably of little consequence.

Good luck to Chaulk! Playing hockey in Italy, making
great wages, Teaching hockey in Toronto and being closer to family, that sounds a hell of a lot better than sitting on two ladies and a bus cruising around texas playing teams like the laredo bucks and the amarillo gorillas in the IHL/CHL or is it the ICHL?

Shrocky was a blast to watch last year! But if that kid has what it takes to move up the ladder he would better off playing in the ECHL where he will probably be scouted from the higher ups on a nightly basis.

Mr. Extinct Elephant (or is it MRS. Extict Elephant?) - So you agree with me....on several points......you did good. :-)

People will never shut up. Doesn't matter how many times you tell them to or how many times you get praise for doing so. The only thing I don't like is the thought of telling one to shut up with reckless abandonment is going to actually work (when in reality, "I disagree" is the aphrodisiac that will send you into euphoria that you seek when doing so).

But that's just my opinion, because I'm on a....
blog.......or forum.......opinion page?

Yes Rob there are two things we agree on.
#1 People have the right to act like blithering idiots until the blog owner feels like putting a stop to it.
#2 I am going to continue to call them out on it.

Tim,
I don't think Blake is going to waste his time or blood pressure on this now.
At this point I think most rational people with common sense have walked away. So that says something about me I suppose lol. If I didn't have the business and personal connections to the club I'd probably have long sense given up the cause and let the fools run the asylum.
Oh well. I'll still be there opening night and I suspect many of the high and mighty mouths here will be too while at the same time telling others how they are staying away.
I do know that Komets ownership pays little attention to the vocal minority on these blogs but as one of them told me awhile ago, at least they care enough to post.
If the false misinformed attacks/jabs could stop (yes Puck Bunny I am talking about you again) then maybe these boards could be productive again.
We all want answers. We all want assurances that everything will be good. Beyond that everything else is just noise in cyberspace.

And if things don't get calmed down, I'm sure that Blake will be told to shut it (this blog) down by his boss at the newspaper. I consider Blake to be a friend, and he does'nt need the additional grief that is being dumped on this blog.

I'm sure that some hockey related news will be forthcoming. Now back to my big glass of orange kool-aid and tinkering with my old car.

Bob, Blake certainly deserves better on many fronts.
I'll join you for a sip of that Kool Aid....
And if it gives you any clue who I am when I remind you of an after game conversation at Dennys a couple of years ago regarding your local car repair shop and the revolving bullpen. Don't let your car end up in there or you'll never get it back lol.

We too will miss Colin on a professional and a personal level. He is my son's coach, and I certainly can vouch that he is a very good guy. I know, that is totally uncalled for, as I am only allowed to comment on his hockey skills, not his personality. But he is a great coach and has been a great player. I just wish there were more of an opportunity for him here. I can understand the reasons behind him leaving, though, especially when coaching is so obviously his passion. He excels at it. He has gotten my son to a level he never would have risen to otherwise, and he will be missed at Canlan. They have no idea what they are giving up. It's a shame they could not have offered him more to stay, and also a shame that he and his lovely wife haven't got their family closer. We'd love to keep them here, Colin in a Komet jersey or not.

Alan

I'm pretty sure that nothing good is going to come from us speculating on the reason(s) why Colin Chaulk has decided to leave.

In truth, no one but Colin and his wife know for sure. And you know what? That is exactly the way it should be.

Instead of bickering among ourselves (see above posts) we should congratulate Colin Chaulk on his choice to better his lot in life, encourage him as he pursues his dream, and to thank him for his contributions and accomplishments to Fort Wayne and the Fort Wayne komets.

In the few times I have spoken to Chaulk, I have always found him to be a caring, gentle, soft spoken man who seemed to have a heart bigger than life. His skill and leadership was a unique combination rarely seen at this level of hockey. His personna encompassed many levels. We will be poorer by his leaving, but Toronto and his new hockey team in Italy will be richer for it.

As the "AA" leagues shrink in terms of franchises so also will opportunities for players as less teams means fewer rosters. Adding to that fact we see that the IHL is adapting to the CHL rules. These rules dictate fewer veteran players and smaller salaries. In my opinion I can't see how the game of hockey benefits from punishing players because they were skilled enough to play over a certain amount of games. It just seems backwards to me.

This is the "new economics" of AA hockey. I feel that we, as Komet fans, are simply frustrated by the numerous changes that have been thrust upon us in such a small amount of time. Sometimes change can be good, but we are being asked to digest a whole lot of them.

I have no idea, nor do I care, if any of these changes caused the Chaulks to make this move. I have no idea, nor do I care, if these changes were simply the vehicle that started them thinking of their future in a more urgent fashion. Improving your station in life shouldn't be judged. It should be everyone's goal as long as it is done in a legal, moral manner.

What I do care about is to remember to say "thank you" to Colin Chaulk and wish my very best to himself, his wife, and his children.

Life is funny sometimes. Maybe our paths will cross again and selfishly if they do I hope he's wearing a Komet uniform again.

Rob, it's ok to fill a blog with fodder as long as you are in the elitist circle of people on here who try to name-drop by saying they're friends with Blake Sebring... Wow! Here, let's see how awesome this feels: I walked past Glen Marini at Best Buy last week... Does nothing for me.

As for the slow-witted mammoth, if you read above, his self-stated goal on here is to get people to piss on him. Sounds gross and unsanitary to me, but to each his own.

If the blog is shut down, a couple of the fogies who post 15 messages a day may actually have to do something with what is left of their lives... Scary concept. I'm also lost on how all of you supposed brilliant business owners have the time to blog all day?

Alright, I'm off to enjoy a place that frightens many of the old-timers on here: outside!

To clarify, on the off chance that was directed at my post, Alan....I'm not speculating as to his reasons for leaving....I can understand them no matter what they may be. He's had a great run here both on and off the MC ice. I wish him all the best in whatever he does, and know that he will have a wonderful post-Komet career....buona fortuna in Italy!!

Actually, trashing Puck Bunny for what she said is wrong. On Justin Cohn's blog, it was said by either he or Ben Smith that Komet Players told them that the offers they got from the team were "low ball" offers, and alot of them were very unhappy with what they were offered.

I know I will get name-called and slapped around for saying that.

One particular blogger is throwing out all the insults, all the name calling, and is doing so as a defender of freedom and Blake's blog?????

Hillarious.

I have heard from several people that players are not returning because the finances don't make sense to them, and that is their choice obviously.

My question, why did our ticket prices increase, number of games decrease, player salaries decrease, the number of franchises propped up decrease, and why is it a sin for people to question that?

Fire away Dumbo.....I mean Snuff.....sorry that I lowered myself to your level and name-called.

I apologize Blake.

Superfan is my friend too.

"Those teams in Europe can often pay players more than teams here can."
----------------------------------------------------
That's because their jerseys look like something out of NASCAR. Seriously. You have to search to find the team logo on them. It's crazy.

And I make it my policy to never tell anyone to simply "shut up" or "go away" on the blogs. Not only is it wrong if you believe in freedom of speech, but to me, it also feels like admitting that I can't hold my own in an argument with the person, or that I'm not confident enough in my own opinion to believe others will see the logic in it.

Rob
Fri, 07/02/2010 - 6:29pm

You're right Hit, it is funny.

Schrock's going to Europe. Can't say I blame him.

Looks like the harder the Frankes try to implement their own rules, the more they're shut down. They should remember that they went to the CHL, not the other way around. If I was a league and someone came to me and said I want to join you but I will play by my rules and not yours. I'd say I can stand on my own, you can't, so I don't see how playing by your rules benefits me. You're failing, I'm not. Again, who's rules should we play by? Doesn't make any sense to me, none whatsoever, don't care what an elephant says, to play by yours.

If I had to guess, I would guess that the Frankes had sour grapes with Pickard and didn't want to join only to save face coupled with the thinking that they were going to impose their moniker on a lesser (in their minds) league in order to get away with it. I think they're in for a rude awakening.

Everyone sees it but their defenders and maybe even themselves. It's funny to think that the defenders think that they're the majority, but when in reality they're the minority. Talk to other people throughout town. They like to think that they're the majority because they pump money into the Franke balloon. That's absurd.

The ECHL and the CHL are bigger entities than the Frankes will ever be. If you want to play with them, you play by their rules, not yours. A board of directors has more power than some family that thinks they control some part of a landscape that is actually controlled by many other people.

The Franke family are smart business people and they have proven it. They certainly have a lot of pull and I commend them for that. However, their reach does have a limit. I believe they are starting to recognize that and I wish others would too.

MR SNUFFLUPUGUS

Bob I think that is where you told me the garage was. I think I still have your email addy. I'll shoot you an email.

Wendy I'd love you have a legitimate argument with these people but there is no point. You can't argue with people who are angry but don't know what they are angry about and don't care about facts. They turn every event into a chance to preach doom and gloom. They will not be happy until the Komets and this venture between the IHL and CHL fail.
It is part of the internet culture. People demand to know more than they are entitled to know. I love being called an old time when I haven't even come close to hitting 40 yet but I guess if you are an early 20 something kid (or act like one) you can call me old. But I remember when the only info that mattered was what the date and time of opening night was and when tickets went on sale. I was always thankful that unlike most minor league cities I didn't have to worry year to year IF there would be an opening night.
Now people expect to know minute by minute what is going on with this team and league.

I was reminded today that the Komets in no way feel threatened or insulted by the comments made here and on the other forums which are just about worthless.
So I am going to dial it down a notch. Those of you who want to be a blithering idiots I won't call you out on it anymore. What I will do though is demand facts.
So...
Hit, if what you say is true about players claiming they were lowballed, I want names and places where I can read the direct quotes.
I would also like to know how much those players were in fact offered so I/we can judge whether they were in fact lowballed. As an example if Andy Townsend was expecting to be paid like a top level defenseman and the Komets refused, I don't think his claim would hold much validity in most fans eyes.
So this elephant will become the resident fact checker.
Just because you moderate/post/work on FYC or the other forums and those owners like to rant against the Franke family doesn't mean they are doing so based on fact.
Success often breeds jealousy. Just ask the Yankees.
