Tailing the Komets

This may be asking for trouble

Coaching candidate interviews are this week. There are only two candidates, Pat Bingham and John Marks. So here's the deal: What would you ask one of these coaches in the interview?

How about...

Which of the Komets dispersal drafts picks can fit into your system and would like to sign?

Which of last years Komets also fit into your system and would like to come back?

Ok, the basic of all question, What IS your system?
That may seem easy but if I am the GM I am going to listen carefully how he answers and explains it because it will tell me alot of how good of a communicator he is. Some coaches have great ideas in their heads but have a hard time actually communicating them verbally.

I would also ask what if anything do you do differently to prepare for road games.

Good questions Greg and Tony. Maybe you guys should do the interviews. LOL

hey blake, wedge named to the all star coaching staff, should be front page news not fill in fodder like the jg!

Chuckitt, we did the same thing with it because that's all there was to use.

Lol based on his answer to my system question I have a list of follow ups but they are technical and boring.
So for the sake of the blog I would ask him if he would be willing to get himself measured for the purple gorilla costume and if he realized he would be chased up the WOWO fire escape by angry bloggers if the team starts 5-11 this year and he hasn't thrown a basket of sticks on the ice yet.

Blake
Tue, 06/27/2006 - 10:05am

5-11, shoot you guys don't have the patience for 0-2.

Greg
Tue, 06/27/2006 - 10:11am

Blake, most of us don't get the chance to see the K's go down 0-2 beacuse they almost always play the first 7-10 games on the road. We almost have to wait til they go 5-11 becuase that's when we've finally gotten a good look at the team.

And I believe I've seen it reported that the Frankes or Puhalski liked to start the season on the road. I could be wrong though.

Blake

They usually do because taht way they get one of the East Coast trips out of the way early. That won't be the case this year, so they might even open at home for once. I think that's the plan.

When will the schedule be released, Blake?

Blake

Probably next week along with coach, etc.

Thanks Blake, I'm looking forward to seeing the schedule. Hope to see some back to back games with the Hogs and Kwings. Like to see some bad blood develop this season!

Would you be willing to take 50% of your salary request if there were bonus potentials, based on your performance, that could more than double your base salary demand?

20% of the balance if we have a winning record
20% of the balance if we make the playoffs
10% of the balance if we win 30 home games
25% Bonus if we win the regular season.
100% Bonus if we win the cup.

so as you see i am spending someone elses money just fine, all i want is to win win win. oh and slaughter the hogs and whiny martinson.

Good interview with Jeff.....interesting comments. Also they had one with Tedstone and he says he is already signed with Elmira and he is actually under 300lbs right now and still losing....hold on.....I think I just saw a pig fly past my window.......

Great find David...you the man. That was the most telling interview of a player that I have seen in a long time. Great hard-nosed questions and great answers. Here is one exchange that I will never forget...and for all of you that rode the Ryan Jorde bandwagon all year...read this:

Q: In your opinion, how well of a job do you think Ryan Jorde and Lance Galbraith did with the Enforcing duties when you weren't playing or were on the bench? Also, what do you think of these two guys as players and as fighters?

A:I think Lance Galbraith did a real good job being the

Sorry Blake...I know you are busy. I was just dreaming out loud. It was fun to read what Jeff had to say though. I respect his opinion on things because he was always a class act when he was here and never bitched and moaned when he could have at times when "Chief" was screwing around with him. He makes tons of good points about this league and the toughness thing. My question about the Q & A is this: Why is it the impression of the interviewer that the UHL is on the brink of folding? Have any thoughts on that?

Attendance dropped because Stewart and Worlton were traded? Really? If my research is correct, the Komets averaged 7401 per game in 2004-05 and 7421 last season. I would say the truth of the matter is both deals were not popular initially but most fans eventually got over it.

Bring back the days where brawls and bench clears were common? Yeah right. That sounds real intelligent.

Bring back the 19 skaters? Sure, I bet Jeff would be all for that. It gives him a job.

Jorde being overrated as a player/fighter? I might agree to an extent on the player portion of that but I was not expecting Bobby Orr either. I totally disagree with the notion he is a overrated fighter. First of all, he is not a "fighter". He is a defenseman first and fighter being a distant second. He is not a goon that has one sole purpose on the team but rather a player who "can fight" if the need is there. He is NOT a first line defenseman but rather a 3-4 guy IMO. I'll tell you this....every single Jorde fight was hands down more entertaining than the shadow boxing, head bobbing, and wrestle fests we had to see when Worlton fought. I liked Jeff when he was here as he stood up for his teammates all the time and tried like hell every shift to make a difference but don't go smearing other people on the team when you do not have much in the napsack to back up your own game. I'll take Jorde over Worlton anyday.

Finally, take the Q&A with a grain of salt. Its a fight board asking fight questions to a fighter about bringing more fighting to the game. Most of the questions were baited and the answers were predictable. He hardly hits on the very things this "fan base" desires. He only fueled the fire of the 5 or 6 guys around here that think PM's are everything. That is hardly a base.

We don't need Blake wasting any of his time digging up dirt from last season. He has got a woman to search for with that spare time.
Turn the page and look forward to what may be in store for us. New coach, new players, and maybe a new attitude.

Feels so refreshing to have Mr. Scoops set me straight and correct me....seems like old times. Thanks old buddy.

And the thing that got Mr. Jorde into trouble was his whole "everyone fears me" BS. And I am glad that Mr. Jorde entertained you in his 4 or 5 fights this year that we saw. He was huge in the playoffs too. That guy was a stud. He surely has a line outside his door begging for him to play in the AHL next year. He was over-rated and over-hyped for sure. This guy hid behind the net most nights and was afraid to mix it up in front of the net. This was the biggest weakness of last years team...and guess what....he was a part of that. I too will turn the page. But this is a forum to express opinion on topics that are raised...and what is the harm with commenting on here? And before you say it Scoops, I know I have said all of this before. It is great to have you back though. Feels like hockey season again.

I believe the 5 or 6 guys you refer to are season ticket holders or they go to about every game. This would mean that penalty minutes are not everything because we have'nt had too many of them lately... I think if you really looked into it more fans would want a team like Rockford, Muskegon, K-zoo, etc... Teams that were faster, bigger, stronger, tougher, and scored more than the team we had last year. And you cant move forward without remembering your mistakes from last year... Most just want a well rounded team that we can be excited about again...

Tue, 06/27/2006 - 8:16pm

It would not surprise me if Jorde ends up back in the AHL next year on a team that doesn't care if he fights as long as he clears the puck out of his zone.

Bob, i like my hog checked and boarded over ice, pounded with a fist to make it tender then slashed open before its deep fried, broiled, run over by a bus, or just good old fashioned roasted with a little K-Wing sauce.

Jorde was a fraud and JungleMonkey called it first. I remember that everyone was jumping down my throat about being in love with Danny Stewart just because I called Jorde overrated. Now it seem that the vast majority agrees. Jorde has no place in the AHL. Hell, he's not even the best defensman on our team. It doesn't shock me that he comes across as a kiss-@$$ either.
