Tailing the Komets

May I suggest...

Since there's not much going on right now and I'm still tied up with football and tennis, can I suggest you check out a few websites for fun?

Most of them are linked on my blogroll to the left (which I need to update), but there's some very interesting stuff out there. Some of these I found linked to other sites.

Komets legends.

Old jerseys

Aric and Jay's

Komets 50th anniversary team

Chad Ryan always has something interesting to look at

Justin's JG blog.

Komets on Wikipedia.

Komets on facebook.

Shutterbug's photo site.

WENDY'S PHOTO SITE

Old Central Hockey League site

Anybody else got any good Komets sites to suggest?

I wouldn't even trade Shaf for Big Snake straight up. I'd also like to see Legault and Big Snake go at it.

I'd just like to see Legault on the ice... Seems like it's been FOREVER

Thanks for the info. So Big Snake is FBI -- "Full Blooded Indian"? That's cool. I understand there may be a little of that on my mom's side of the family. Just a little. But I have a lot of respect for Native American heritage.

Regarding Flint: Hey, at least they have a coach and GM now. :S But you've got to admire the hopefulness of some of those replies. The Flint fans deserve better than they've gotten so far.

I kind of compare him to Robin Bawa. I have 3 Robin Bawa jerseys. 2 Henley jerseys . 2 Woods jerseys

C'mon people. Trade Shafranov for BigSnake????? Shafranov is one of the slickest puckhandlers in the IHL. His passes are incredible, his skill level is remarkable, and don't forget he still scored over 20 goals despite being out with the sports hernia surgery. His leadership on the ice is, without question, a tremendous asset for the Fort Wayne Komets. I'm a little surprised at how under-appreciated he seems to be. Physical play is an important part of pro hockey. We all understand that fact. Sometimes, however, I believe we get so caught up in that style that we lose track of the fact that winning games is the ultimate result we are looking for. This team has done a nice job blending toughness, defense, and skill together. I think we still need two more goal scorers. (One could be Varone. Any news on him yet?) I have nothing against Blair Stayzer but I am not convinced that he was a good signing. He counts as a veteran and doesn't bring a whole lot to the table. We are two goal scorers away from another Turner Cup. Trade Shafranov for BigSnake? We should be thankful we have a player like him on our roster.

Agreed, Alan. Shaf is slow out there 90% of the time (it's an age thing, not an effort thing), but even with being slower, he still gets the job done due to his talents. I've watched a lot of Big Snake videos from when I was thinking he was the one we were signing, and I really wasn't overly impressed. I'm not too afraid of him greatly affecting the Komets season.

They couldn't trade Shaf even if they paid someone. He prob wouldn't report to where he was traded. I would bet he has a no trade clause in his contract.

I have read with interest what others are saying and decided to comment. I looked up the stats for Robin Big Snake and Konstantin Shafranov to see how they compared and well, they simply DO NOT compare. In the 2007-2008 season, Big Snake played in 25 games, had 1G, 7A for 8 points. He had 208 PIM. That same season, Shafranov played in 71 games, had 23G, 35A for 58 points and only had 28 PIM. Last season, Big Snake again played in 25 games, had 4G, 11A for 15 points with 208 PIM. Shafranov played in 60 games, had 28G, 35A for 63 points and only had 10 PIM. I agree with Alan and RunningKomet on what they posted. Shafranov is an asset to the team. Why wish away anyone with Shafranov's abilities.

I'll have a much easier time rooting for someone to knock Big Snake's block off than I would cheering for him in a K's jersey. Is it October yet?

Varone signs.

Varone signing is terrific news. He brings excitement, speed, scoring ability, and a great attitude to the team. One more sniper or an offensive defenseman and the Cup will stay in Fort Wayne. Great job by the Franke's to get him back here.

Big Snake couldn't sniff Robin Bawa's... socks. As someone much smarter than me once said, any fool can fight. It's takes a man to be able to fight and play the game. Robin was a man.

Bawa was an all around player and tough as nails...Was his career cut short due to concussions?

I am not positive but I think it was cut short by a chance to get into his Father's Business. I think it was a trucking business in western Cananda. Blake may know more,

05-06 BigSnake=27 goals & 423 PIM, 90-91 Bawa =21 goals & 387 PIM / I've always liked Bawa & sure I'll dislike BigSnake by game 1 vs musky. Bawa had to retire because of concussions, I remember a fight with Jason Simon and Bawa's tooth went flying out.

Alan and Andrea: Glad to see I have fellow Shafranov fans on here!! He's one of my faves. I get routinely bashed on that "other" blog for admitting that....he may be old, but I'd hardly say he's slow. He can make you look pretty stupid out there just puck handling alone....speed is not always required. Finesse is a great asset for a hockey player.

On the other hand, I do enjoy a fighter for his skills....Steve Fletcher is my favorite former Komet, and I loved what he brought to the ice. He was not the greatest goal scorer on the team, but everyone knew what he could do to you if you messed with his teammates....there is something to be said for that. Ditto Mitch Woods today....I love that guy, AND he has the ability to become more than the Ice Patrol...he can score, too.
