Momonomics

Silly prattle from economic morons:

A full-time stay-at-home mother would earn $134,121 a year if paid for all her work, an amount similar to a top U.S. ad executive, a marketing director or a judge, according to a study released Wednesday.

A mother who works outside the home would earn an extra $85,876 annually on top of her actual wages for the work she does at home, according to the study by Waltham, Massachusetts-based compensation experts Salary.com.

To reach the projected pay figures, the survey calculated the earning power of the 10 jobs respondents said most closely comprise a mother's role -- housekeeper, day-care teacher, cook, computer operator, laundry machine operator, janitor, facilities manager, van driver, chief executive and psychologist.

The obvious point to make is that most jobs have mutiple functions that could be individually priced, but that would be taking these "compensation experts" more far more seriously than they deserve.

(A picky point of word usage, by the way. The whole comprises the parts (e.g., the Senate comprises 100 members). The parts do not comprise the whole. And "comprised of" is always wrong.)

"Comprised of" always wrong? Eek, I've been using that construction for years, I'd better look it up. Thank you, Professor Morris!

MY wife (a teacher) and I addressed such an issue the other day. Being a semi-retired "house-husband" might seem a glorious fate. All that time to do "nothing"...(yeah right).

But before you all sign up for this tour of duty, be advised that "all those little jobs" that are usually deferred or ignored about the house (and are taken care of by the housewife) that *we* as men take much for granted...are like savings bonds...the longer you hold onto (ignore) them...the more they mature (get worse)...LOL!

It IS much better if you have some (make that a LOT of) technical experience so as to not have to call for repairs if something breaks down...that alone is a GODSEND!

And I told the missus that if she HAD to *pay* me for all the tasks, jobs, duites, and miscellany...she could NEVER afford me.

[plumber, electrician, applaince tech, tcom tech, painter, plasterer, landscaper, dishwasher, cook, auto diagnostician, small animal handler, locksmith, furniture mover, carpenter, and garbage man] (whew)

SO much for self-*employment*. I priced myself right out of the mainstream...

Being the task-master of the *realm* has it's ups and downs, but if properly managed (unlike some cities which shall remain nameless), will serve a family well into the future.

Now...if only I had some help around the house....ROFL!
