Moped delusions

Hard to resist a story that opens with this:

A moped-riding would-be gigolo is behind bars this morning for trying to bribe a female police officer with $5 and an offer of intimacy.

I looked for evidence of the moped lothario's gigolo intentions and found only that he asked the female officer for a kiss and sex. Alas, the writer reached for a fancy word and grabbed the wrong one. A gigolo is a man who lives off a woman, especially a young man with an older woman. It does not yet mean someone who offers sex as a way of gettting out of a ticket, or whatever it was the writer thought it meant.

There's a second, less-common definition. If a dime-a-dance girl is a male, he's also referred to as a gigolo.

He's offering to dance the horizontal mambo, and expects to get paid off with a free pass on the ticket. Kind've a stretch (and if I was editing the piece, I'd have opted to change that particular word, thereby earning scorn as a barbarian by the erudite writer), but it's not entirely wrong.
