Tailing the Komets

Notes and little news

According to Komets General Manager David Franke, the team expects to hear a decision tomorrow from center J.C. Ruid. If he decides to go elsewhere (I've heard Chicago), the Komets have a back-up plan in place for another veteran forward.

The deal is, Ruid is still considering going to Europe, and the Komets don't want to get stuck with another Mark Smith situation with a player leaving during the season.

* The players have started informal workouts at McMillen Park Ice Arena and will be out there every morning next week.

* The Komets won't say anything about whom they are getting from Hershey yet. What if that player makes the Bears? If he does, the Bears are committed to helping the Komets find another defenseman. Hershey does have a ton of rookies coming into camp.

* The Komets are not sendng anyone to camp with Hershey or Bridgeport. That was an option for a couple of players they were looking to sign, but they chose to sign elsewhere.

* At this time, it doesn't look like Komets coach Pat Bingham is going to attend any AHL training camps.

* Because the NHL has adopted it, the UHL is also adopting a new rule that allows a 3/4-inch curve on sticks compared the the previous 1/2-inch. The UHL will not be adopting the rule that allows the home team to choose whether to shoot first or second in the shootout, which I think would be huge since the road team shoots first and the team that scores first wins about 75 percent of the shootouts.

I think Big Snake might have a screw loose. I remember last season towards the end of the season he was suspended when we played them and he sat in the crowd. A guy that sits in front of me yelled something funny, but in a friendly sort of way toward him...and I thought we would all end up on CNN because the look that Big Snake had and he kept glaring over in our direction. I thought for sure he was going to come over and kill someone. That guy is one Little Debbie away from a Nutty Bar.....YIKES!

Actually, I heard from a few folks sitting above in that section that some of the stuff really wasn't that funny, and a complaint was filed with the league over some of it. The Komets, the coliseum and the IceHogs took the complaint seriously. Supposedly Big Snake felt some of the comments were out of line, and so did some of the FW fans who talked to me about it.

Or maybe we're talking about two completely different incidents.

It wasn't from the guy in front of me then. The guy in front of me just basically said "You can't help your team out there sitting with us." I doubt that is enough to make Big Bad Big Snake complain to the ushers, the Komets, The Ice Hogs, and to the League. Honestly though, he looked like a guy that could snap at any second, and anyone who would have the stones to say anything questionable to him, was taking their lives into their own hands, or maybe into his hands. LOL

Hit, I have written on this before. He comes from a place where most families do not have toilets in their homes and the drug, violent crime and suicide rates are off the charts. He no doubt has alot of anger built up inside him (with good reason under those conditions) and hockey is probably his only channel to release some of that anger and aggression. From a strict hockey standpoint, because of the above I do not want him on my team as he is a disaster waiting to happen.
As a human being I feel very sorry for him and many of the First Nations people of Canada. Even as an American I have joined in several letter writing campaigns because those people deserve to live in decent, clean and safe neighborhoods just as we do. There is no excuse that the people who are actually indigenous to North America should have to live like animals. What has happened to the natives in this country and Canada is shameful.
(Gee, who would have thought I am a Republican LOL)
Off my soapbox....goodnight ;-)

DONT CONFUSE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE WITH NATIVES AS ALL THE POLITICALLY CORRECT PEOPLE DO. the ancestors of those people all migrated here just as our forefathers did and it is a shame that we have shoved all the indians aside onto reservations and let their conditions be some of the worse in the world. iam a native american as i was born here. i also am part indian but i am a native cause i was born here. another case of changing the meaning of words! because of big snakes backround he deserves any chance anybody can give him until he proves that he doesnt deserve it. i would take him in a heartbeat but he cant be any worse than that cheap shot beazeau!

Gotta agree with Chuckitt. It's good if Big Snake can make something good out of a bad situation (heck, it's good if anyone can do that) and I think overall he's a decent hockey player, (he must be or he wouldn't be given a look in the AHL), but if he keeps making "BONEHEAD BEAZEAU" plays he's going to continue to get a bad rap, he's going to continue to be heckelled in the stands when not playing, and then he's really going to do something stupid that will end his carrer befroe he would like it to.

Chuckitt, by definition the two words are virtually the same and that is why people use them both. I know that the First
Nations people get offended if they are referred to as indians or eskimos.
Everyone everywhere migrated from somewhere. Heck Adam and Eve were forced to migrate lol.
To me, he has been given chances, and still should but do I want to be the one that gives it to him? This may sound hypocritical considering I am a champion for the rights of First Nations people but in this case I am talking about a strictly hockey decision. Take another example and I know it is a different situation but let's say a guy fresh out of prison wants a job at your company. You might believe everyone deserves a second chance but are you going to tell me you are not going to at least think twice about being the one to give it to him?
Big Snake at this point has not demonstrated the ability to keep his cool. He is a VERY talented player but how hard is it to get him suckered into taking a dumb penalty in a key situation? His career is full of suspensions and ugly incidents. Also (and this of course touches a nerve with me) he has been abusive of officials resulting in suspension more than once.

Interesting story with Domi. But you know. Most tough guys on the ice are some of the easiest to get along with off the ice.

Rockford signed their #1 goalie today. A former ECHL rookie of the year and has AHL experience. They are shaping up to be a good team. The western division is going to be good!

I've heard all of those stories about Big Snake before. I am not really saying anything here. He just looked like a guy that was ready to kill someone. I hoped it wouldn't occur in the MC that night over someone saying something that was intended to to be a joke. That's all.

Any word yet on whether Ruid made his decision today? I was also curious if anything has changed on the trading of Duharts rights.
