I hope city and county officials are paying attention to other taxing units. The Allen County Public Library, it is reported, plans to flat-line spending to meet property and income tax deficits. In some places, it's even tougher:

The Greenwood Public Library has laid off one full-time and five part-time employees in response to budget reductions. In addition, the library has reduced its hours of operation.

The library has experienced a 23 percent reduction in its budget for 2009, to $1.2 million from $1.6 million in 2008, said Jane Weisenbach, the library's director of development and marketing.

NOW...if we could ONLY get those OTHER 30+ "taxing entities" to think in like manner...we could REALLY see lower taxes...across the board!
