Oh, Canada

Even on a slow news day -- which we haven't had a hell of a lot of lately -- this would be a pretty silly story:

PRINCETON, N.J., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Canada, which Barack Obama visited Thursday in his first foreign trip as U.S. president, ranks No. 1 in U.S. public opinion among 19 nations, a poll indicated.

Ninety percent of U.S. respondents view Canada, the United States' largest trading partner, favorably, while only 6 percent view it unfavorably, a Gallup World Affairs survey said.

Let's see -- country's right on our border, they speak English (mostly), we haven't had a war with them lately. What a surprise -- we like them best! And the country we like the least of the 19 considered? Iran! I know. I was shocked, too.

They left off as a couple of reasons for the mutual good vibes: Canadian/American affinity for B.C. wacky tobakky and MooseHead.

Now if we could just get certain people in Mejico to stop smuggling guns and people into the country and knock off the grabbin' of folks off the streets and dissolving their decapitated remains in the backyard vat for a while, maybe they'd also be on our list of pretty places to go! Hmmmm. . . that reminds me: think a contingent of our generous, mandible-actuating Potomac benefactors could spare a few moments away from their financial firehoses in order to re-evaluate strategy of that "war?"
