Overseas Contingencies are hell

Well, President Obama did promise to end the war:

The Obama administration appears to be backing away from the phrase "global war on terror," a signature rhetorical legacy of its predecessor.

In a memo e-mailed this week to Pentagon staff members, the Defense Department's office of security review noted that "this administration prefers to avoid using the term 'Long War' or 'Global War on Terror' [GWOT.] Please use 'Overseas Contingency Operation.' "

Overseas Contingency Operation -- how catchy. Just as a matter of curisoity, though, what was 9/11? Oh, wait, that was somebody else's Overseas Contingency Operation!

It sure was, Leo.
That just beats all...and here I was ready to roll out my phrase "Neighborhood Contingency Operation".
I knew I should have copyrighted that...LOL.

Maybe I''ll just go back and use "Personal Urban Renewal Program", or PURP for short.
Yeah, that's a better fit.

On the other hand, the success rate of a government-sponsored "War On (fill in the blank)" over the past few decades should be sufficient to immediately raise suspicions regarding probabilities of sucess and give one second thoughts about assigning the term "War" to any public initiative whatsoever. Essentially, someone now at the Ministry of Information wants to restate our Reality, perhaps even make it "go away." You are getting sleepier . . . and sleepier...

War is Peace,
Freedom Is Slavery,
Ignorance Is Strength . . .
and a rose by any other name still smells sweet.
