Tailing the Komets

Is this proof enough, JR?

Jon Mirasty: ``I look forward to playing with Fort Wayne. I'm really excited about the opportunity. From what I hear the fans are awesome. I'm excited to come to Fort Wayne and finsih the season off there. I'm a player who feeds off the fans and I've already heard good things about the fans of Fort Wayne. I'm really excited to be able to show them what I can bring to the table.'

More coming tomorrow.

I think many of us on this blog are on the same page JR & GM. It's the average fan in Fort Wayne who would have problems with it, especially if they started losing games or a playoff series because of it. And can you imagine the howling there would be if the coach had to sit a top forward or defenseman to give ice time to a player so he could develop more?

This is Indiana, only winners need to apply.

Very true Steve...People say Fort Wayne is a hockey town but in reality it's a Komet hockey town. Go into a bar and ask them to turn on an NHL game and they'll look at you like you have 2 heads

I can't resist, I attempted to bite my tongue.....

So are you guys saying that the Mad Ants are so successful because you get to go watch guys play at the MC that might get a chance in the NBA?

The TinCaps/Wizards success is because people are in love with the fact they might be watching a future MLBer?

I think that this level of hockey and this particular town is different than normal Minor League Hockey Town.

We love our Komets here, bottomline. We want winners. We want entertained. It is a whole different ball of wax with the Komets, the tradition, the heritage, the love of this team.

There might be a group of people out there that think seeing a handful of guys make it to the "show" that played 2 or 3 games here is super important and great to brag about.....but most could care less.

I am not saying anyone is wrong for feeling either way.

Personally, Tincaps games are for the baseball (the game) and the Ball Park.

The Mad Ants.....not a fan of that style of basketball personally.

If we had an AHL team here.....you would still have the majority of the crowd loving the Komets, because they are the Komets. There is nothing wrong with that either.

If thats the way you feel Steve, then buy the team and bring in an AHL team...... :)

I just thought I would beat some to the punch...lol

I used to love saying, "yeah, I saw him get his start when he played for Muskegon in the old I...." Or peoria, or Indy, etc... I also said that about some of the goalies we saw play for Ft Wayne who made it or Andre Roy when we had that short fling with Florida...

I mean look at alll the Major league players we can boast about seeing play ball here since the Wizards and Tin Caps have been arouind... My dad still talks about seeing A-Rod's first professional home run... Dayton had an outfield of Adam Dunn, Austin Kearns and (I cant think of the third guy) who have all gone on to play in the Bigs...

I think most are sooooo conditioned around here to thinking to how bad an affiliation can be that they never stop to think about the positives that can come from one....

We have a basketball team, Hit???

I think what people tend to miss is that teams normally sign a handful of free agents who can still play at the AAA level; but have missed thier chance at making it to the show... These are players that the fans can connect with from year to year while also having top line developmental players come thru... So you get the best of both worlds...

I think it would be great to watch a guy play on wednesday night for the Komets and then watch them on Friday night in a Blackhawks (or whoever...lol) jersey after getting called up...

I'm sure we will have Blake and others giving us the "sky would fall" posts about how prices whould have to go up, less control, no revenue from the building, blah, blah, blah; but I dont expect to eat at Eddie Merlot's for McDonalds prices. If I'm getting a better product, I'm expecting to pay more...

If I had to venture a guess.....

I would say that this "Wednesday" game will see a nice bump in attendance than a normal Wednesday game.

I will guess 7500ish....

It's not about being able to brag that youve seen so and so in the minors and now they're a star, it's watching them play. They make it to the pros for a reason..talent. I'd much rather watch someone with the top skill over someone who is a nice guy or been with a team for years. The AHL is the top level we'd ever get here so of course that's going to be what I want to see but everyone is different on this matter. Some people care about the record and others care about the skill level of the players...tomato tomatoe

It's the only one of their roster I can see going...No way Granbois (their leader in PIM) drops his gloves with Nasty. Got a feeling it will either be Klotz or Mirasty makes someone go.

JungleMonkey
Wed, 02/09/2011 - 9:03am

Granny will never be the same if Nasty gets his hands on him.

Chris Cloud looks to fight from time to time, but doesn't have the size to hang with Mirasty. I nominate Klotz to take the beating.

I couldn't care less if someone has the size to go with Mirasty or not :) It'll be nice to see someone not wearing orange and black getting their rear handed to them for a change. I'm still relatively new to the Ks, and in the 4 years I've been going to games we've never had a REAL enforcer like this. I missed the Fletcher era. I love watching Cescon throw once he's pissed, but other than that...

I had been seriously considering skipping the game tonight since I've been feeling like microwaved death all week... but I think I've recovered enough to drag myself in. ;) I just hope we get to see a good fight...

Here's hoping they get the fight(s) out of the way in first few minutes. As a player waiting and watching for what might happen can be a huge distraction. We have some hockey games to win. Hopefully Mirasty will be able to do his job effectively without disrupting the chemistry the team has going right now.

JR, I wish I had the money to buy the team and move it to the AHL. Not that I would, it would mean I'd be living somewhere where it is warmer then 14 degrees, preferably surrounded by clear blue water. Pull out a hockey stick and the locals would say, "What's that?". :-)

For me it would be both seeing the greater skill and the players move up. But I love hockey and due to job transfers have spent a few years watching hockey at a lower level then AA and still enjoyed it.

Mad Ants? I've been to two games as part of a group being promoted. Basketball has never been my thing at all, I've never followed it so I can't judge it but I most definitely wasn't impressed buy the small crowds both times, and seemingly made up primarily of elementary school aged kids.

I do enjoy the Tin Caps but again wonder why Fort Wayne is in a lower tier A league? One would think AA would work here also, but it's probably a travel issue again.

In regards to double-A baseball in Fort Wayne, most double A leagues are based out of the southeast part of the country. Professional baseball in the Fort would have to be the Midwest league (low-A) or the International league (triple-A)

Personally I would LOVE if Fort Wayne was able to carry a Triple A team but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Wow, did not mean to irritate GM like that....just did not care to hear him call the Komets "has beens" and "never will be's". I thought that was a little...well, whatever. Your opinion, my opinion. I was only using Chaulk as an example. And yep, I do like him. Feel free to continue to call him your Lord if it pleases you...not my thing, but, whatever...LOL...

And I forget who brought it up above, but I am a Komet fan, and watch for both the talent and the entertainment. But I can be entertained by all levels of hockey, since I am a fan of the sport, period. I'll also go to watch high school hockey, and love to watch really talented high school players, and college, and any pro league at any level. All of them have their good and bad players. It's just a fact that not everyone can make it past a certain level in hockey. It's all good....I think anyone who can tie a pair of skates and shoot a puck is doing pretty well. I see how hard these guys work pretty darn close up, and I have nothing but admiration for them. Sure doesn't mean you or anyone else has to, GM. Just me admiring someone for doing what they do. :)

Some people like prime rib, others like sliders. Doesn't mean those that like prime rib don't like sliders, just means they like the best whenever possible.

I watch all levels of hockey, from high school to the NHL..Simply saying that if I had my choice I would watch the best on a regular basis..Don't see how thats something to get so worked up over. Simmer down

Really? Haven't heard the term sliders in awhile? Apperantly you havent been to Powers, White Castle, Applebees, TGIFridays, Ruby Tuesday, etc etc etc who all have sliders listed on their menu.

Blake Sebring
Wed, 02/09/2011 - 10:48pm

Those aren't sliders! Powers has the only true sliders, at least in this town!

I think BLB might be talking Oysters? Would that be possible BLB?

"Colin played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 1994-95 to 1997-98. His full OHL career was spent in Kingston with the Frontenacs. In his last three seasons, Chaulk lead the team in scoring. In his final season, he finished fifth in the OHL in scoring with 96 points."
GM you are correct. He won't play in the NHL. He should have at least had a chance.
A player with the record (above) he didn't even get drafted.
Politics whatever, not many if any have those credentials and don't get a look.
