Opening Arguments

The race is on

This is going to be so exciting I can hardly wait:

Fidel Castro will be in "perfect shape" to run for re-election to parliament next spring, the first step toward securing yet another term as Cuba's president, National Assembly head Ricardo Alarcon said Thursday.

Think he has a chance to win? Will he campaign on the Internet and use focus groups to supplement the scientific polls? I wonder how the fundraising is going and whether he is well enough to study all the issues sure to come up in the debates. I hope Newsweek covers the election extensively so I don't have to count on Fox, which will surely slant its coverage to make Fidel look bad.

You have to wonder if Fidel will even be able to make one personal appearance for a speech, or whether they'll just use cardboard standees of his photo cut-out at the rallies. Not that the government won't guarantee he wins anyway...

Leo,
I am sure everyone is waiting with bated breath for you opinion, but given the storm ravaging Washington DC-the scandals, the Republican problems in finding a candidate, officials lying to Congress etc, you might find your way to comment on something that matters. Not sure what Fidel has anything to do with anything. This obsession is the right wing equivalent of Pamela Anderson or Britney Spears.
