During the 2nd intermission commercial....

Hextall: "The Komets aren't trying"

Chase: "The Goalies need to quit trying, they are getting no help right now"

Hextall: "Boucher needs to take a 2-Hander to some of his teammates, maybe that would wake them up"

At least we are paying Hextall for something....might as well make him the Color Commentator/IHL3 Commish.

"We are on the path still searching for 2-3 cities to put Franchises in adding to the 5 we have currently...... We have an exciting new sponsorship with CarHart for the IHL and we are looking at 2-3 others currently. "

Bob and Hextall were complaining about the style of play in this league and how the scores are always 8-6 and such.

Hextall said that the Komets are struggling because the CHL is definitely "a step faster" than the IHL2.

How many of you out there are happy to hear that this CHL adventure is just a stop=gap until the Frankes can buy or prop up some ownership in new IHL cities to get the Komets back into a league where they have total control and we can get back to winning 9-10 championships in a row???

This ought to start a fun debate.

Unreal people.

Hextall is, was, and will forever be... a joke. How can anyone take him seriously?

After the disaster that the IHL2 was, I can't imagine anyone getting on board with the 3rd coming of nonsense.

Bloomington and QC aren't going to be part of another run at Franke glory and destiny. Why they waste time and money on keeping Hextall around is beyond logic.

How long does Sims keep ducking responsibility? Reminds me of Shanahan in DC. Keep pinning it on players til you run out, then wonder why the lockerroom is allegedly toxic.

This thing is flaming....and not just the Logo.

IHL3 or bust!!!

Gotta love the attitude by the Ownership here that if you can't win in a real league.....then we will prop up our own league so we can control it, and win.

Anyone else growing tired of this.

I agree with JM.

Sims should be sharing responsiblity.

But for me.....no offense to the boys that saved hockey in this town......They deserve the blame on this team....this move to the CHL to only have this team here long enough to move it back to a farce league......

Maybe the Komets should just play in the SAC so the travel would be minimal and they can surely beat high school teams.

Evansville got the new arena because of the CHL.

Who wants Flint back?

Port Urine?

Muskegon anyone?

Bloomington and Quad City have said they are CHL teams and said in the summer they are not in the IHL....period.

This is a joke.

Mike Franke needs to go on record and explain what Hextall and Chase were talking about tonight during their little propaganda showing.

And, no, I am not full of crap, don't go there with me.

Just curious what exactly did Hextall do poorly?
Did he turn the economy and the owners in Flint, Muskegon and Port Huron to dust?

Here we go.... since people want to bring "back" people to Fort Wayne....

Bring back Brian Gratz!

CapraD.....it is a nightmare.

Snuff.....not so much Hextall doing something poorly...

More of the Frankes continued efforts to do things their way or no way.

What is wrong with the CHL??? Other than they don't run it, and we can't win in it?

If you are sitting there thinking there is nothing wrong with another run at propping up another IHL league in which the Frankes make all the rules and the other teams are just there to play agaisnt the Mighty Komets.....then you and about 40 other fans are gonna be awfully alone in the future at the games.

I can't see the fanbase buying into this line of thinking this time around.

Or they are just using this as a smokescreen so we will talk about this and not the awful team they have this year???

LOL

You guys can keep bagging on the IHL and the Frankes but it won't change several facts

Fact #1 The premise of the IHL was a good one.
Fact #2 Until the Komets get more control over arena revenue they will never move into the AHL. To do so under their current arrangement they would have to have the highest ticket prices around. They get zero dollars from parking, (Blake correct me if I am wrong) zero dollars from food concessions and pay a large portion of ticket sales AKA rent fees.
Fact #3 Minor league hockey in general cannot survive like it is now. The Komets should never travel to Texas. Toledo and Cincy should never travel to Bakersfield California.
These leagues will realign because they will have to. They need fans to be able to travel from city to city. Fort Wayne VS Toledo on a Friday night is probably close to a sellout in either city. Fort Wayne vs Arizona? Not so much.
#4 The claims the Frankes bought 3 championships make as much sense as the Komets travelling to Arizona. Nuff said. The talent in the IHL last few year was as good as what you see in this league this year. Robin Bouchard, Todd Robinson, Centomo, Macdonald Chaulk (in his prime) PC (IN HIS PRIME) Rob Nolan and others could play in the CHL/ ECHL or IHL. Of course there are more "stars" in this league. There are more teams.

#5 The Frankes did not do a good job assembling this team. I said before LAST season started they were too old. They managed to win another championship. Now it is coming back to bite them. They passed up the chance to sign better talent and instead opted to give big money to Dupuis, PC, Curd and two higher priced goalies.
#6 Al Sims and the players have done a horrible job preparing this team to play in this league. Our guys are old but they didn't lose their skill this quickly. This league plays differently. The game is officiated differently. You need to be able to adjust to the style of game this league offers. These guys are capable of doing it but aren't doing it. Either they are stubborn, it is coaching or both.
#7 In reference to #5 how spoiled are we that one bad year out of 10 they may not make the playoffs and suddenly there are questions about the compitency of ownership?

The IHL or some other league like it will be back within the next few years. It has to be. So, understand this may be a lost year. Decide if you are a bandwagon fan or a fan supporting the team through good and bad. Me, seasons like this make me appreciate what I got to see the last 3 years. I don't ever take championships for granted and look forward to our next cup run in whatever league it is.

Hit your post and mine crossed. Would you rather the Frankes let the IHL fail mid season last year? Yes they stepped in with their money to save the season and a league so that cities could have professional hockey. They weren't under obligation to do so but did it to try and save this league. Why is this a bad thing?

I disagree with most everything you say.

I typed a great response.....but I have decided to give up.

You win.

You are right.

IHL3 is the best idea.

Best of luck.

It is not worth the battle because my opinion and the way I feel right now makes no difference.

Your opinion matters more because it is your business for it to matter.

I do agree that minor league hockey should realine to create close city rivalries and lower operating costs. I hope it happens. It would definatly improve the sport.

Sat, 12/18/2010 - 12:07am

I can agree with that....so long as it doesn't involve places that cannot or couldn't support pro hockey.

If the ECHL and CHL come together, redraw the AA footprint and put divisions together that include something like K-Zoo, Toledo, Dayton, Cincy, Indy, Evansville, FW, etc.....then ok.

But I don't think people buy another IHL with 6 teams and only 1-3 being able to truthfully survive in markets that don't support the teams.

That can't happen again.

mr. snufflupugus
Sat, 12/18/2010 - 12:39am

Hit. I never said your opinion doesn't matter. Not sure where that came from.
I also never said hockey should go into markets that cannot support it.
This entire system needs to be realigned.
The ECHL has its issues too. They have a division with THREE teams in it.
Right now sadly Flint is a dead market. Port Huron should not be a dead market but is because of the building situation.

Off the top of my head....
Fort Wayne, Kzoo, Cincy, Dayton, Toledo, Wheeling, Quad Cities, Bloomington, Evansville (should be viable) and Missouri.
Wheeling to Missouri would be the furthest travel distance (12 hours) in this 10 team league. Or maybe you attempt to bring a team back to the Family Arena in St Charles which would make that distance 3 hours closer.
Right now most Komet away games are not even in our time zone. As much as I think it is cool that I can hear Komet games at midnight it isn't the best thing for keeping fans interested who have to go to work the next morning.

Hextall isn't saying anything about realigning Minor League Hockey.

He is saying that he is searching for 2-3 franchises to add to the current so-called 5 IHL franchises for the IHL.

I can buy some re-alignment of minor hockey to make the sport better for it's fans....

I can't buy some farce league put together for the Komets for the sake of having teams to play against.

Sorry.

I didn't mean that you said My opinion doesn't matter....I said it.....and it is true. It doesn't matter what I want. I have to choose if I am willing to accept what is offered to me. IHL3 for the sake of the Komets.....I am not sure I can stomach that again.

Hey Hit, how can you say the Frankes buy the league? Yes, they supported Flint, and supposedly Dayton last year. But when we played Port Huron, and won after 3 OVERTIMES do you seriously think they bought that championship? If you do your crazy IMO! Do you really think that the Frankes go into the locker room and say " hey guys i will give you X amount of dollars if you lose this game so my Komets win." Do you seriously think that 1 the coach is gonna take that, and 2 the players are gonna say yea we will lose. Dont you think that every team wanted the Komets heads after winning 1 championship, and then the 2nd championship. Yes, you can say that we fudged the salary cap last year, but who knows. Last year alot of people were saying Musky was over the salary cap. Port Huron should have beat us last year, and if Larry didnt get hurt we would have gotten beat. Or do you think that was a Franke deal there too? I read this blog all the time, dont hardly ever post. But when you constantly say the Frankes buy the league/ and or Championship its ludicrous!

It's called competition Scooter, when you spend X amount of dollars more on players then any other team can afford, you squash that competition. Where would you rather play? In Flint, where you may not get paid, or Ft. W, where your pay shows up and so do the fans?

The IHL was a joke, always was, always has been.

If the Frankes were to tuck tail and run after 1 dreadful season in the CHL, I would hang my head and walk away from watching the komets in their FHL.. or IHL.. or whatever made up league they throw together..

IMO starting an IHL3 and leaving the CHL does discredit much of what happened the last 3 years.. seems like a heck of a coincidence. They leave a largely "suspect" leage(IHL2) only to be embarrassed in a more established league(CHL). A third of the way into their awful start, the talks of their bought and paid for league begin once more.

Defend it all you want kool-aid drinkers... defend away.. BUT, if the Frankes do this I will never support them again. Oh I know.. Lonely ol me. "If you don't like it don't go." I have heard it all before. However, before you throw your rehashed sarcasms around at people, remember.... There are likely a TON of people who will see through this ridicules scenario. I would Imagine the Frankes lose a ton of fans.. Not just lonely ol me.

I think we can all agree that this has been a very disappointing year so far. And to be honest, we Komets fans have been spoiled for the past 6-7 years. Great regular season teams and just recently three straight playoff championships. We can argue til we are blue in the face about how bad the IHL2 was. But if the komets were leading the CHL I bet we'd saying a different story. I think the talent in the CHL is better than the IHL2. I saw it went I went to see Odessa play in Dayton. I watched two teams that I had no vested interest in and just watch. I noticed how fast the game was. Faster than the IHL2. I'm not going to pass blame. It's been a bad season so far but I have hope it gets better.

I'm not sure what to think about the talk of a IHL3. If memory serves, the IHL/CHL have a two year agreement so i think it would take at least one more season and from what I've seen at least one old IHL team I don't think will make the move if the IHL3 goes it alone which menas they need at least 2 new cities. I hope the Komets can move to the ECHL with Dayton. that would make for plenty of road trips for us all.

Let's all take a deep breath, step back and analyze the loss of last night. There's a great many ppl that post on here that truly know the game of hockey and can write about it in a most entertaining way. The humorous entries within this forum have me laughing aloud quite often. Clever and witty posters here for sure. Anyway, back to my original thought ... score 5-1 for QC. Don't lose sight of the fact that 80% of those goals came from the opposition's PP. Yes, I'm aware that 100% of our goal came from a PP too but that's irrelevant to my point as I'm dissecting the reason 'why' we lost. Not 'why' we didn't win. Okay, that's just dumb logic but some may get my point. Would it not be better to say we lost 1-0 (taking into account the even strength goals only)? Put another way ... "our PK sucked last night, we'll be better next game". As a fan, given the past performances of the team I for one would be happy with a 1-0 loss. Can you tell I'm a "silver lining" kinda guy?

Sat, 12/18/2010 - 9:56am

can see you point, however how do you explain Dayton's success? Basically the same team....How about Quad City....same team. How about Evansville....same team....how about Bloomington....same team. Thomas Klempa couldn't make the Komets he is ampng the top scores, Toby Lafrance couldn't make the Komet???? Dan Price came from the CHL....did nothing here...Chris Grenville had more success in the CHL than the UHL....What I am trying to say is this team is not playing together, they need to change some personal or bring in some quality players, not D-3 rookies and expect them to make a difference. Having said all of this AA hockey is AA hockey, UHL,IHL,CHL,WPHL,WCHL, europe...Italy, 2nd league in Germany,Norway,Denmark, etc.
