Burgee--NOT GOING TO HAPPEN--Period

I'm not trying to argue with you Chad; but there are several areas that a place like Ft Wayne can have a distinct advantage over teams like Flint that are "outside" the hard salary cap.

The K's are much deeper than Flint, especially on defense, IMO... And the idea that the K's have bought thier titles is out there. Anywhere you go in cyberspace that pertains to minor league hockey, you'll find discussions centered around the Frankes dominance of this league and the beliefs that this is the "Franke Hockey League", not the IHL...

I do have to disagree on the thought of irresponsible reporting because I view it more of an opinion piece....

Sure it's out there JR, I've read it, but always from the same few people posting the same unproven claims. Back in the old UHL when Quad City walked all over the salary cap it was obvious and provable, just not a whole lot could be done about it. That's why the IHL has it's hard cap and consequences.

Are the Ks over it? I don't know but I doubt it, there would be proof of it at a league level (due to disclosure rules) and corresponding fines and no doubt press.

Muskegon had a great season and guess what? A hand full of fans are claiming they were over the salary cap also. For the Komets or the Lumber Jacks (let alone both) to be over the cap the other teams, especially QC and Bloomington, would have to sit still for it. Why would they ignore it? Are the Frankes bribing league officials and all the team owners?

Flint has had a storied end to their season and they've had a couple of seasons of pure hell for their players and families. But Flint is the only team in the league that has had these problems so does that mean every other team is over the cap and therefore a better place to play, or does it mean the other teams are running their acts the way they should and it has nothing at all to do with being over the cap?

I think it comes down to something more basic then that. People love an underdog, and people don't like winners, not in today's world. Do good, be successful, and there's always losers claiming you cheated to get there or don't deserve it now matter how tight the competition was and how close the season and playoffs were.

On the other hand, I've lived long enough to know there is still a possibility that the people claiming the Komets are buying the cup could possibly be right. IMO though, it's just like so many other conspiracy theories, in order for them to be correct it requires the involvement and silence of a tremendous number of people and history has shown us that just doesn't happen.

The easy way to say that a team has unfair advantages is to say they are "over the cap"...IMO... I would be willing to bet money that no team in the IHL was over the cap in regards to just salaries for this past season. I would also be willing to bet money that teams with the financial ability have stretched the loopholes to thier advantage.

There are also more than a few people making these claims... And I think the reason most K's fans would find this type of article irresponsible is the fact that they dont want to hear, read or see anything that could tarnish the K's good name...

I definitely see where you're coming from, JR, and I agree with a lot of your points.

As far as irresponsible reporting goes, whether you're writing an opinion piece or not, claims must still have backing. That's why there is that little disclaimer "This column is the commentary of the writer and does not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of (insert media outlet name)." There are consequences to spouting your mouth off in print about stuff you can't prove, whether it's an opinion or not.

I know what your saying about disclaimers and agree... Its a two way street though, you have to be able to prove the opinions or claims false in court during a libel suit, and that means opening your books and divulging your day to day operations for all to see... That hasnt happened, therefore the speculation and rumors will continue to grow...
