Shhhhhh!

Guess if I want a little peace and quiet, I'll have to go to Chicago:

Aldermen determined to restore peace and tranquility to Chicago neighborhoods introduced a pair of killjoy crackdowns Wednesday -- one establishing a 10-minute time limit on dogs barking outdoors, the other empowering police to impound ice cream trucks that play music after 7 p.m.

Wonder how loud, oh, gunshots are compared to ice cream trucks?

Well, I suppose not too loud at all in Chicago - unless I'm mistaken, isn't that one of the places you're not allowed to own a handgun, ... ?

Illinois in general has some of the strictest "gun" laws (what is needed are PEOPLE laws...as in responsible, law-abiding folks denied rights so only the criminals have the guns...yeah, that makes sense).
But Chicago does have a noise ordinance in place that allows police to IMPOUND cars with LOUD stereos....sweet.

Personally, I'd WELCOME any noise OTHER than the obnoxious boomcars, the horn honking (which has replaced KNOCKING on doors), the gunshots (yes, we DO have too many guns in the *wrong* hands in Fort Wayne), and the up-and-coming fireworks!

When I hear Summer Song Ice Cream coming along playing Pop Goes the Weasel....kinda reminds me to dig out some 3 Stooges videos and put the world on *HOLD* for about an hour.

As to the time limit on barking dogs....well, that's best left in the "special kind of stupid" bin....Old Fido can't READ a darn stopwatch, no matter HOW hard we make him try.

There are certain signs of summer that I love....but ice cream truck music just creeps me out. Of course, harlequin clowns creep me out, too. So I am the wrong one to say (since IMO the whole ice cream truck music thing should just be stopped), but it seems to me there might be a reason to prevent the trucks until AFTER 7 p.m., when people are done with dinner and it's time for dessert.

Chicago has warmed to the task of banning things lately.

Not that it has ever been found on your plate (nor mine), but you won't find foi gras on the menu in any Chicago restaurant much longer.

Mayor Daley didn't consider the topic a particularly high priority for municipal governent but the Chicago City Council passed the ban with but one dissenting vote.

So are we to assume that some of Chicago's ritzier neighborhoods will be graced with creepy-music-playing foie gras trucks?
