Opening Arguments

Spring forward

It looks like those of us who think ISTEP testing should be in the spring will get our way. Jim Shella, political reporter for WISH-TV Indianapolis, reported on his blog today:

State School Superintendent Suellen Reed chairs the State Board of Education but Governor Mitch Daniels controls it.  That was clear when Daniels appointed six new members today.  Reed was away on a mission to Taiwan.  All six new board members lean toward moving the ISTEP test from the fall to the spring, something Daniels is for and Reed against.  The board has ten members so Daniels already would seem to have the votes he needs to accomplish his goal even though he tried to minimize it at the announcement.

He also asks: Is it time to start the debate up again regarding an appointed superintendent? Yep.
