Opening Arguments

Is this Syrias?

This is not a joke. Well, it is, but it wasn't meant to be:

The brutal crackdown by Syrian President Bashar Assad may finally be getting the attention of world leaders -- but apparently not enough to stop Syria from becoming the newest member of the U.N. Human Rights Council.

And despite calling for an independent investigation into the crackdown, which has left hundreds dead, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon apparently won't do much about blocking Syria's path to the human rights group.

Time to cancel the lease on that den of fools and scoundrels and board the place up.

Nothing would be more appropriate than pulling us out and pulling ALL support from the UN, and then serving an eviction notice to all the member nations hanging out in New York.

Worthless organization.

The United States remained a member during the Bush Jr. administration, which was marked by torture and other violations of international conventions. And I'm not letting Obama off the hook, either. After all, Gitmo is still standing and at least partially inhabited.
That said, Tim may have a point. The UN's intentions are good, but its accomplishments are embarrassingly meager.
