Tailing the Komets

Talked to Rob Nolan

He's working through his agent to figure out what the best offers are. He said it's a tough market in general for goalies, and hehopes to decide in the next week.

I asked about the fact that the Komets already had Nick Boucher under contract, and he said, ``From what I've heard and seen of Nick Boucher, he's a really good guy and a really good teammate. Those are the guys you want to surround yourself with. I'd really be happy to get to know him better.''

I have no idea which way he is leaning because I'm not sure he knows right now.

Justin is reporting that Legault is not on the Komet radar. That according to David Franke! I wouldn't count on his return.

He was invited to a camp because he was big and could fight, not because suddenly he was skilled. I give him this, he can skate and fight, which is not that common. It's everything else he lacks, like hockey sense and hands and a shot.....LOL

It was coke zero, now its ice tea, probably going through withdrawal!

But on that Komet team, he was expected to play on a regular shift, and contribute more than just fighting....and when he didn't produce, he was riding the bench and sitting much of the season looking pretty in the stands because there was no one his size to fight and with Mac on the team, if you can't play hockey, you belong in the stands.

Do you honestly think he was sitting in the stands because he didn't fight good enough or didn't fight enough??? Al Sims doesn't exactly tell play players to go out and fight, he mostly tells them not to.

Don't get me wrong, I am not necessarily arguing anything big here Andy, your points are valid, I think we are disagree-ing on what his role on that team was.....which really, who cares now. He was a great good luck charm watching his teammates win the Kup.

Could he come onto this team as a lower priced enforcer and play a role for this team and do it well......probably.

Will he get invited to camp??? Cohn reports that Franke says no.

But it sounds like they have someone in mind other than who they have inked so far.

I say go after Dick the Bruiser......sounds funny anyway.

I brought Jorde's name up as a joke.

Joke was the key word in this.

No one wants him back here.

I really don't think him being around to give the team luck did anything to win the cups. The games are decided on the ice. You could say the same for Laplante 2 years ago too if you are talking about being supportive. Also, there were a few guys in the league that season for him to fight-Littlejohn, Snowball, that goon in Musky named Doyle that Macker had to fight 3 times one game up in Musky because there was no one else on the team willing to go (and Doyle was a heavy, whereas Mack is a middle weight). I guess for me, I never though Legault really contributed enough for all the credit it seemed he got. (I always laughed when I saw the cover of the paper when they did they big section on the K's winning the first cup and Legault was on the cover.....he never even played!) Sure he was tough, but there's more to playing hockey than that, and Macker did it better. Why beat a dead horse and bring a guy back that didn't contribute very much in the past, just so he can take a roster spot from a young guy (read-cheaper) who can maybe contribute offensively a bit.

reiterfan - let me get this correct. You tried to call people out on thinking and saying "they know people".. then directly after, you state that YOU talked to Jorde and he said.... riiiiigggghhhhtt... So we shouldn't believe anything from "the other people", but we should however believe you..

I'm sure Sugden will never play in this "ihl-CHL" league. Not enough money. He is wanting AHL type cash. I would like to see a guy like "Tidball" make his way to the Komets :)

I not think "anyone said they talked to Jorde at a MMA fight. My MMA buddies from Toronto talked to Sugden & he said he would like to win a cup before he retires & said that the Komets sounds like the place to do it. 3 cups in 3 years. There is a fight on youtube with Jorde & Sugden

Jorde would never come back to Fort Wayne. Hilarious. Jorde was one of the biggest talent wasters to come through FW in the last 20 years. Nobody wants him back.

Mightbite, please do me a favor.

I'm a little confused now as you've posted about Sugden being the enforcer coming to the komets, then later posting that he would not play in the IHL-CHL.

"Next Komet news is the signing of 2 D-men & Legault."

Then you've posted about Legault coming to training camp and then I read where Dschebig has quoted Justin as saying Legault is "not on the Komets radar".

I always had a little doubt about Sugden as he would count as a veteran. However, Legault seemed reasonable as he is young. ( Don't know what advantage Legault brings except his youth.)

So what is going on? Did you just plain miss on these or are there other circumstances?

How accurate is the signing of the two D-men. ( Are they DeAngelis & Warner)?

Help me out, OK?

The best thing about Jorde was the Komets received Terry Marchant as part of that trade.

Marchant was terrific taking faceoffs and he could score also. I thought he was a pretty decent hockey player.

I also said Woods & Henley was coming back long before it was announced. Also that BigSnake was coming to the league last year. The Sugden was told to me by my MMA buddies in Toronto & the Legault deal was at the Komet office.Hope that helps :)

Thanks, Mightbite. It does help and I do recall that you made the right call on Woods and Henley. That is exactly why I was wondering what happened.

Alan, I had all but forgotten Marchant....I always liked him too....he would be a nice player to have back, but that would probably never happen. Wonder if he officially retired or just sort of drifted away?

Gheesh.

I give up, You win Andy.

Legault was brought in to be the Enforcer.

Sorry.

My mistake.

Blueline Baby, I believe Terry Marchant retired after playing his last season here.

Even if he hadn't retired I'm sure the Komets would have had no interest in him. After all, he was a veteran and we can't have too many of those type of players in the game of hockey anymore. (Just being sarcastic as I think these "veteran" limitations are stupid, stupid, stupid).

The excursion into the CHL with its reduced vet rules and tiny salary cap has cost the K's at least two players for sure. One, Colin Chaulk, and two David Hukalo. I would submit a third also- Kevin Bertram.

The ironic thing about Marchant was that Al Sims was the GM for Flint who made the trade.

Alan-You always seem to me to be a factual person. Have you looked at the players union contract? I am not making any assumptions here but it looks like with the lower salary in the CHL and the perks granted with the players contract it is at least a wash or better than the higher cap. I, like you, would rather see more vets but it is what it is.

He is one BIG (100+lbs) loveable black lab. He drinks foo foos also. He reminds me a lot of you with all the drool! :)

Dschebig, until I see or read what the "extras" were for the IHL last season ( and in seasons past) there is no way to make a determination. We all know there was a per diem. The amount of it was determined by when the players got on the bus for a road trip. I believe the amount was larger if they left before noon and smaller if they left after noon. We also know that they received rental/housing allowances.

It was explained to me once that "veteran" players expected and received larger contracts than "rookies" or "tweeners". ( In fact I seem to recall a newspaper story in which Pat Bingham explained it pretty well as he was putting together his team.

So....I really don't know, but if your veteran players are paid more and you eliminate 40% of them, your salary cap drops also.

I wouldn't think it is a "wash" as I'm pretty sure Colin Chaulk would not have left, pretty sure David Hukalo would have wanted to return, and wasn't it Guy Dupuis who said he took a pretty hefty pay cut?

However, just to be fair. It is speculation on my part. Yet I think my speculation has been thought through pretty well.

Hope you're doing well, Dennis.

Chaulk leaving had nothing to do with the Komets and everything to do with Canlan, as he'll tell anyone that asks. Also, Alan, everybody wants a raise after winning a championship, justifiably so. Going off last year's CHL numbers, going from $13,000 to $10,500 a week is a significant drop no matter how many people you bring back. From what I can tell, all the subsidiary issues like housing, per deim and such are equal to last year.
