It should have said I don't see the big issue in my last sentence.

One thing you forgot to add in..most of the promotions you talk about that aren't free....

Sponsors fit the bill on those for the majority of them.

Someone said it earlier....the costs go up...the wages are being cut in half for most people or no wages at all in some cases.

I know that most of you don't care about that a single bit.

But for alot of families, it makes a difference.

Again....those really high prices such as the $45 that is continually mentioned is for the first row against the glass....row 2 is much cheaper....

The same argument can be said for the other side KK....

1. 5 less away games to pay to travel to
2. shorter season which equals fewer insurance, housing, etc... payments.
3. smaller rosters/cap equal less to pay out to players
4. etc...

And that 'pissing and moaning' that people are referring to is legitimate concerns for many families out there who are facing less Komets games to see this year in person.

I'm sure some would see the 'big issue' if they were the ones facing having to listen to the game at home after 30 years of watching live.....

I can see this thread eclipsing 100 posts, especially if mightbite keeps talking smack about my colts.

I'm pretty sure Alan just suggested a new tax, tax and spend.

Just my healthcare alone goes up 15% Oct 1, I fully expected 20%. Shopping that along with everything else I can, cell service, trash, u name it.

I can't wait to get my fort Wayne newspapers renewal, I bet it goes up too

Less games to pay players too.

It all washes out.

I am going to be careful how I say this.....because every business is in business to make money...

But the risk is how much profit is enough?

Do you run the risk of losing more attendance by raising prices in this economy?

Can the Frankes stand for attendance to fall below 7000? What if the Komets tank with this roster as they did to start last season and attendance slips into the 6500 range or less?

You just gotta take those chances I guess.

We'll see how it works out.

It's tough when you have teams like Bloomington, Dayton, and QC hanging on by a thread too. What happens if one or 2 of those teams fold mid-season?

Risks.

I agree, Burgee. I shouldn't have made the example that I used. It could give people new ideas that could cost us all more money. It was just a way of explaining how a revenue stream becomes untouchable in some instances . Please disregard my post as I don't want to be the one to blame for a "building use" cost.

Here is the deal. Anytime we have to pay more money for something, we need to make a decision whether it is worth it or not. It is an individual decision which will be made by everyone's own situation. If the market will bear it, it will be permanent. If not, then the market will dictate that the prices will be reduced.

So please disregard all of my post except the last line.

We do need more scoring.

Now if the Komets announce Jack Pinch, BWs, and Artie Kiyaga tomorrow.....

WOW!!!

The ticket talk would go away for sure.

I will throw in Legault for good measure. LOL

So sad that so many people are blinded by the frankes smoke and mirrors. Defend them all you want. Intelligent people can see right through them. And we will boycott the komets and the frankes.

confused with logic?
Tue, 08/23/2011 - 8:20pm

everyone has their own thoughts on this, and right or wrong mine are that I will cointinue to see games when I can because I love Komets hockey, but my budget for my family and I will not allow me to see as much as I would have in year's past. And for those that say save money all year to pay for it I say :0p To save $ all year for a family of 4 for season tickets even in the cheap seats it would be trying to save over $100 a week. I'm doing ok for myself, bills being paid and not living above my means, but there is no way I could justify saving that much a week to see the same 4 teams a majority of the home games. For those that can afford it my hat is off to you, but you shouldn't trash those of us that don't have the means but have the balls enough to express our opinions on a blog...I thought that is what blogs are for anyway.

KK, not sure where you are seeing movies, but talk about wasting money...to see any movie made in 3D is a joke.

i bet the coliseum raises parking and concession prices to replace all that lost revenue from the Wizards and Football team, the last time parking went up didn't they do it just before hockey season, kind of snuck it in on us.

maybe we should all park at northcrest and bring our own snacks to the game.

i want to carpool with red headed hockey chicks, hit, mightbite and monkey.

I was at a Notre Football game years ago against Stanford when Notre Dame was #1 in the nation and Stanford upset them....Holtz was still the coach.....Mirer was QB.....And there was a little old man and little old woman sitting next to me that looked like they have been in the stadium literally for 100 years.....really old....and they had binoculars, I thought they brought them because we were in the endzone about 1000 rows away from the action....

No, they unscrewed one of the lenses and poured something into the ladies coffee and into the mans cup that could have taken the red hair dye out of BLB's blouse. They were sauced by the end of the game, and the fumes coming from the old man's arse.....good lord......Touchdown Jesus was waving his arms.

What a doozer that was.

Wow...
"hockey fan for life" with another Franke bash.

Wow....
First the IHL wasn't good enough so people begged for the CHL or ECHL. They got one of the two and now they want the other.

Wow....
How many other teams regardless of price have the same building arrangement the Komets do? Komets don't charge for parking (and get nothing from it), Komets get little to nothing out of the food sales.

How would you like them to make money?

CHL = much better than IHL2

ECHL = makes more sense geographically

AHL (with Blackhawks affiliation) = would make JR very happy...lol

Wow....Komets don't have to employ parking attendants, concession workers, order food, maintain parking lots, maintain food equipment, change lightbulbs, unplug the toilet after Burgee drops a A-Bomb on the Club Seats Bathroom, the Komets don't have to fit the bill on insurance on the arena, they don't have to worry when the beer is skunked and the hot dogs are expired.

Wow.....The Komets just have to pretty much worry about advertisers, ticket sales, and the team operations.

Wow.....All those other teams have alot more costs when it comes down to it.

Wow.....Did you read the great deal that Evansville got on their new arena. 10x worse than the MC/Komet deal.

Wow.....The MC gave the Komets a raw deal excuse won't play around here anymore.....Kent Horman had Randy Brown on his show and it turns out the Komets have a pretty sweet deal.

Wow!!!!!

JR1,
LOL on the advertiser bleeding ;)

I will stand by my belief that I have mentioned in the past based on some fact and some theory that within the next 3 years the Komets will be in an 8-12 team regional league. I believe the ECHL/CHL as we know it will be drastically different if they even exist under those names at all.
Right now it is a game of musical chairs. Thankfully the Komets are smart enough to find a seat when the music stops playing.

Tue, 08/23/2011 - 11:43pm

Hit....
So you take the word of Randy Brown over the Komets....
Wow.

Mr Snufflupugus
Tue, 08/23/2011 - 11:51pm

Hit just curious.... have you even ran your own business?

Your theories are very interesting. Because the Komets don't have to spend money on concessions or parking attendants and therefore have no ability to make money on those revenue resources somehow makes them better off?
They don't have to pay 4 old women $10 an hour to sit in a booth while they rake in $4 per what, 3000 cars on an average game night ($12,000X 38=$456,000 a season if they do not make the playoffs?) ? Or wow, they might have to drop $50,000 once in awhile to fix the parking lot...

Please let me know how my business can make money without spending money and I'll be all over it. Otherwise I'd love to be able to buy into the concession/parking that the arena makes $$$$$ off of.

I take both sides of the story and listen to what each have to say and I don't think either side is evil.

I think it is stupid to constantly think that the Komets are being held back somehow by the Coliseum.

I think it is a mutual relationship and both need one another, and both benefit from one another.

Tell me how the Komets being in the MC is a bad thing.

Let me also say that I am not coming at you Snuff, I am just discussing it with you....remember we are buddies.

Tue, 08/23/2011 - 11:56pm

It is a trade off.

How much is rent for the Komets?

How much do the Komets pay if one of the air conditioners go down in the MC?

How much do the Komets pay for the ice making equipment?

If the Komets don't like the deal, they could build their own arena I suppose.

JR1
Wed, 08/24/2011 - 12:07am

How many people are employed by the Coliseum on a game night?

100 maybe? (parking lot attendants, ticket office, maintainence, concessions, bar/retaurant, ushers, etc...)

At $10 bucks an hour, that builds up quick....

I know I was told (or read) in the past that if the K's hit the 5000 mark in attendance, then they dont pay rent... I would venture a guess and say that the Coliseum doesnt make any money off the Komets organization itself; but rather on the 7400 people on average that come to the games... At $6 bucks a beer, and $4 bucks a dog, they probably do ok...

Like Hit mentioned, I think its a mutually benificial relationship...
