I know you aren't coming at me. It's all good there. I've learned to appreciate your passion.

A city the size of Fort Wayne would not have use for two arenas otherwise I think the idea would be explored.

It is a mutual thing in many respects. But in some ways the Komets are truly handcuffed. Not just with revenue but with things like scheduling. Do they really need to schedule midget car racing the same night as the biggest regular season night of the year? How many times have the Komets been forced into a screwy playoff schedule because of conflicts with the building schedule?

Teams that draw the numbers they do tend to have more flexibility with their game day revenue.

I think if you put Scott Sproat in charge of the MC not only would the Komets benefit but the rest of the arena events as well.

The bottom line in my view is the Komets have few ways of increasing revenue without raising ticket prices. Some teams who have control of their concessions would sneak a 25 cent hike on popcorn and nobody would notice or complain. But ticket prices seem to irk fans more than anything else.

You dont have to eat/drink at the games; but ya gotta pay to get in the door....lol

I know its a pain in the rear to have dog shows or midget car races or Bigfoot crushing cars on the same night as a Komets game; but am glad to see it. I figure it goes a long way to help keep the K's in a good contract situation like the currently are with rent at the Coliseum... The more I read when contracts of other teams and their arenas are made public, it could be much worse....

I was always under the understanding that the screwy playoff dates usually stemmed from the team we were playing and thier lack of arena availability???

I am sure they will have a New Komet Jersey and alot of new 60th anniversary merchandise that they will make good coin on.

Does anyone totally disagree with the theory that the Komets are also putting funds back into the CHL pipeline to help the sisters of the poor teams that can't get more than 1500 on a good night?

I have to believe there is Fort Wayne help or will be in Bloomy. That situation there is downright insane. They have dragged their feet all summer, finally announced a GM and Coach, now the Coach says, this is BS, I am going elsewhere. That situation is looking worse by the day. I heard from some Bloomy fans that said season ticket sales there are non-existant and that they feel like the current owners there aren't taking this thing seriously and aren't putting forth an effort.

I totally agree with you Snuff on the Regional League.

I am a fan of that idea. The IHL concept was a correct one. Just flawed in the ownership and cities and economies in those cities. This time around if they pursue that option....other owners need to step up and take a lead on this thing or it will get labeled bad from the start.

Snuff, you have to go onto the Evansville Icemen Maniacs Blog and read the arena agreement they got. It is alot worse than anything we could imagine here. Granted we have an established following here and 60 years experience and they are new to the game in Eville....but the arena mgmt there darn near made it so hockey couldn't work there.

Transformers a week ago Sunday in D at Coldwater Crossing. I paid $10.50 for each for me and my son. He really wanted to see it and that was the only show time they had. Believe me I would much rather wait a month or 2 and PPV it for 4.99 so the whole family can watch.
Look I see both sides too. Don't get me wrong. Things are tough all over for a lot of people. The $2 per ticket can be hard for some people to come up with especially if they take the whole family. Parking, food and drinks and its easy to plop down $100-120 a game. I understand that. But as a fan and consumer I have to understand that prices go up at some point and time. Look at gas. Like clockwork gas went up 20 cents this morning. But we pay it.
Sure the Frankes are in it to make money. They have that right. Thats why they have been owners for what almost 20 years. If they had lost money do you think they would still be owners? IMO no. Some minor league hockey teams get new owners every year because its a losing proposition. I would much rather have a stable franchise for the team I cheer for then a shaky one at best.

Mightbite is going to need a full size car to take everyone to the game....:)

Or a full size van. And he may as well stock it with snacks and drinks.

JR said "serfs section".... Hilarious.

I enjoy knowing that people are getting over on Randy Brown by sneaking in their own beer, but can we please keep the NattyLite cans out of the crappers? I don't want to wade through the vile excrement of fellow bloggers to take a leak. You think the poo they spew on here is bad, try driving home with it on your shoes. (Except for Snuff's...he's made it clear his doesn't stink! :-) )

I guess it comes down to pay it or don't. I think the price is a little too high for the product. I'm a die-hard. If I were Joe Blow off the street, I don't think I'd see the value in taking the wife and kid to a game for $63 admission and parking. Add in a few sodas and a popcorn and you got a $75 night without Ol' JM touching a brew... You could make a car payment by the time you go to 3 games a month. Seems steep, but if people are willing to pay it...

Mr Snufflupugus
Wed, 08/24/2011 - 8:29am

JM.... You are right!

Hit, on the Merchandise, yes they have some amazing stuff coming.
But... Because they don't order it in large quantities like NHL teams would they have to pay more per unit and their profit is actually small even on those expensive jerseys.

And keep in mind all of the stuff that doesn't sell at the end of the year that is season specific which either gets donated, blown out below cost or sits in moth balls in storage waiting for the end of the world to arrive. When you factor all of that in, the profit VS dollars spent on logo merchandise is the smallest of all the extranious stuff sold at the games.

Classic, JM! At this point I'm not affected by the price change, but when it filters to STH next year, I'll be making the decision as to if Komet games are worth it to me.

As far as parking goes, Johnny Appleseed has always been kind enough to let me park in his lot for free. There are lots of places to park if you're willing to walk a bit. From looking at a lot of people walking into the games, exercise is not an option and $4 is a small price to pay to avoid it hahahaha!

I will be interested to see if Rizk can score at this level as he has at lower levels.

I am loving what I am seeing with the new blood being invited to camp.

I'm a little less excited. APod is a good signing we all expected. Not too giddy on the other two Ham & Eggers.

Great to see younger talent annnounced, yes.

But will they actually have a snowballs chance in hades to make the team?

I doubt it.

All of those young players with promise fighting for 1 or 2 spots. Doesn't seem fair to me.

Mr Snufflupugus
Wed, 08/24/2011 - 12:56pm

Where do you see one to two spots?

Who do you think are locks besides the leader and a couple of the others? For instance, do you see Thomas as a lock? I don't. I think anything the Komets felt they "owed" him was taken care of when they offered him the chance to come back. If he fails to perform I think he is gone by the 10th game if not sooner.

The management seems to bring back guys you would not think they ever would (even after five years).

Wed, 08/24/2011 - 7:29pm

I just don't trust that they would cut Leo or PC or Lapointe or any of the core retreads in favor of one of the younger guys.

Even past seasons the younger talent they have kept they have had a short trigger on them.

JMO, but I can't see them getting rid of any of the guys that they have assigned jersey numbers too all ready.

Blake Sebring
Wed, 08/24/2011 - 7:43pm

I do. I've seen it happen before and I believe they are fully prepared to cut players this year if they are not ready to go right off the start. I also think they've told those players that and it's being listened to.

JR1
Wed, 08/24/2011 - 11:08pm

I'm not holding my breath to tell you the truth; but I will stand up and applaud them if they give the roster spots to players who earn them regardless of the name on the back of the jersey...

After last seasons start I believe all bets are off. Blake brings up some good points. No one's job is safe.

i can see them cutting one or two. just too say, see, we did it! but whoopy... they keep letting these coasters come back to collect a pay check. they bring back others from the past for lame reasons. and cut ties with employees that have been there for many years. all cuz joe wants to "start" fresh... Hard to bleieve anything coming from their mouth these days. Good luck to the hard workers. just more stabs in the back. Who's next? Graham?

Heres to hoping whoever "makes" the team steps it up!! would like too see another goalie invite soon...

Thu, 08/25/2011 - 5:32am

Once you put up a bad years worth of stats, coasting, just not good, ect, i would not be looking at you. So you hustle in camp and make it...then what?

RunningKomet
Thu, 08/25/2011 - 5:41am

Couldn't agree more, Boone. Anyone who knows the situation about Bones and Desmonds knows there was a raw deal screw job involved, especially given the occurrences of the past. The only reason more people aren't speaking up about this is because it involves the behind-the-scenes guys who are doing all the dirty work. You shouldn't crap on these guys. I don't think last year's issues were do to the people who were let go for "a fresh start". I guess a "fresh start" means giving your kid a job and dumping those who the team has relied on for several years for no good reason.

Boone
Thu, 08/25/2011 - 5:44am

exactly... pretty crappy

Mr Snufflupugus
Thu, 08/25/2011 - 10:48am

If someone went Terrell Pryor then just like Pryor, they pay for it but tend to get a second chance. If the rumors about Joe were true then others who have done far worse have gotten second chances. It sucks anytime loses their job if in fact anyone here has. But that is sports, and life. It happens to almost all of us.
