Tongue-tied

Twelve words you might not know you're mispronouncing, including this one that I most frequently hear mangled:

Chipotle
It's a pepper, it's a mayonnaise flavoring, it's a restaurant chain beloved by both soccer moms and MMORPG players alike. And it's NOT pronounced "chip-ole-tee." It's chee-POHT-lay.

Also on the list is "Gyro" and what I had heard elsewhere as the correct pronunciation, YEER-oh. But, really, I've heard it pronounced several different ways even at restaurants that sell them, so I wouldn't feel too bad about mangling that one. OK, confession time. I puzzled over the name of a certain restaurant for years, never hearing it pronounced, never going there. Finally, one day, I blurted out to a friend, "What the heck is a chick filluh?"

Uh ...Leo think Chick Filet as in "mignon" and "o fish."
