Tony Supremo

Thank goodness for small blessings:

President Obama may get liberal Elena Kagan on the Supreme Court, but conservative swing-voter Anthony Kennedy says he's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Justice Kennedy, who turns 74 this month, has told relatives and friends he plans to stay on the high court for at least three more years - through the end of Obama's first term, sources said.

Kennedy does vote with the four-member liberal bloc occasionally, so "conservative leaning" might be a more appropriate description. But he votes with the four member-conservative bloc enough to rein in some of the court's worst potential excesses.

Kennedy seems to be that rare breed on the supreme court. Whenever I hear of a decision the court's made, I almost always know, without looking, who voted which way. Except for Kennedy.
