Opening Arguments

Turning the corner

President Bush has now admitted making a mistake, which should satisfy the No. 1 complaint of his critics. Now, as soon as he repeats the admission on Oprah's show, we can all get on with our lives. Well, except for the war and all.

I don't see how anyone can condone the way Bush is handling the Iraq war. Experts have said if we have any chance of "winning" in Iraq we need alot more than 21,000 troops. Even so, it is unlikely that will do the job either. We need to tell the Iraq government that in 6 months they will need to run their own country. We have thousands of injured and killed people and for what? Bush's ego and arrogance. Oh, but I am sure supporters of this war think that like Bush himself, he is all knowing and powerful and he knows more than anyone else. Well he doesn't. We have our own problems to worry about like all of the illegals crossing the border into our country not to mention any terrorists that could easily get across too.

I always get a kick out of the "I take full responsibility" line. What the hell does that actually mean? Anyone can SAY that but so what? If there aren't consequences for your failures then there really is no accountability. Typically the only people using those lines are the ones who've skirted any accountability and are continuing to do so by invoking that line...
