Modern Army

Recommended reading for the president:

Horse Soldiers is the dramatic account of a small band of Special Forces soldiers who secretly entered Afghanistan following 9/11 and rode to war on horses against the Taliban. Outnumbered forty to one, they pursued the enemy army across the mountainous Afghanistan terrain and, after a series of intense battles, captured the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, which was strategically essential to defeat their opponent throughout the country.

Bet they all had bayonets, too.

Sometimes when information is new to a person, that person feels obligated to inform another person about this new intelligence.  The President probably could have informed the Governor that to go with the aircraft carriers we now have jet planes that are fast.

Louis L'Amour,I think it us,  pointed out that a gunman atop a horse is only about half as effective as oce standing on his feet.  It depends on how jittery the horses.  And them big boats are mightly big sittingducks, as the attack on the USS Cole showed.

It might be interesting to build shipshauling troops who would ride around on a military version of a water jet..  Point your $10K Seadoo towards a billion dollar destroyer, and the torpedo does the dirty work, and if the water jet gets attacked, the pilot returns fire with anM-16.

The  Constitition makes POTUS the supreme commander of the Army and Navy, and the Marines are part of  the Navy.  Who's the Air Force answer to?
