Opening Arguments

It's natural, man

Oh, dear. Remember when the Los Angeles times announced it was no longer accepting letters from "climate change deniers"? In light of that, I'm surprised they even published this:

Naturally occurring changes in winds, not human-caused climate change, are responsible for most of the warming on land and in the sea along the West Coast of North America over the last century, a study has found.

The analysis challenges assumptions that the buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has been a significant driver of the increase in temperatures observed over many decades in the ocean and along the coastline from Alaska to California.

I mean, if you're not going to allow debate because because the party line won't always be followed, why bother with a pesky little thing like reporting news that contradicts the accepted narrative?

Oh, well. I don't see the actual print edition of the times, but I'd bet anything they gave this story better display that the one above.

UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- In a forceful appeal for international cooperation on limiting carbon pollution, President Barack Obama warned starkly on Tuesday that the globe's climate is changing faster than efforts to address it. "Nobody gets a pass," he declared. "We have to raise our collective ambition."

The science is settled! So shut up!
