A sorry performance

Welcome to your new home, fellow Hoosier!

BOSTON (WISH/AP) — Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is coming to Terre Haute, Indiana, a judge ruled during his sentencing hearing Wednesday, 24-Hour News 8’s sister station, WPRI-TV reports.

Tsarnaev also spoke for the first time in the courtroom, apologizing to victims.

“I am sorry for the lives that I’ve taken, for the suffering that I’ve caused you, for the damage that I’ve done — irreparable damage,” the 21-year-old college student said, breaking more than two years of public silence.

To the victims, he said: “I pray for your relief, for your healing.”

In May, a federal jury condemned Tsarnaev to die for bombing the marathon with his brother. Three people were killed and more than 260 were injured when the brothers detonated two pressure-cooker bombs near the finish line.

Am I being a hardened cynic to doubt the sincerity of his apology? Oh, well, it doesn't matter. Guilty is guilty, and dead is dead.
