TERRE HAUTE— What was meant to be the beginning of a new support phase for evacuees of the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricanes living in Vigo County was a bust Wednesday evening.
None of the estimated 61 displaced families staying in and around Vigo County attended the two-hour event at the Vigo County Public Library, nor did any support agencies appear.
The “Community Support Network Meeting” was created by Indiana Project Aftermath, a federally funded outreach program based in Indianapolis, for the purpose of bringing together evacuees to generate support.[. . .]
Project Aftermath, made possible by a $690,000 grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in February, is approaching the end of its project period. There are an estimated 3,000 evacuees still living in Indiana, according to Adams.
Don't panic, though. They're planning on lots more meetings and are beating the bushes for survivors to help.
