Thanks to long-time Komets fan Neal Colvin, we now know that Lloyd Maxfield's best of scoring two goals in nine seconds is not the all-time Fort Wayne record. Jim Boyd scored two in five seconds Jan. 5, 1972 in Flint. Somehow both goals were unassisted as he scored at 7:58 and 8:03 of the second period. There's no explanation of the goals in the story the next day. That mean
If that sounds impossible, consider this: Komets Director of Communications Chuck Bailey found an instance of one player scoring goals in two seconds! According to the 1980-81 IHL record book, Port Huron's Alex Kogler scored goals at 13:46 and 13:48 of the third period on Jan. 7, 1976. Against Saginaw.
Would not have guessed that was physically possible. Would love to hear how that happened, too.
