Shhhhhh!

You think there are control freaks among the political class here? I say Roseland gets the prize:

Roseland's Town Council meeting had been in session only two minutes when an arrest was made this afternoon.

Michael Schalk was arrested by town Marshal Mike Howell for alleged disorderly conduct.

Council President Dorothy Snyder opened the 1:30 p.m. meeting as usual by having everyone say the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

Schlak at the end said “amen,” in an audible voice.

Snyder then told him he had to leave the meeting for being disruptive. Schalk responded he didn't think he had been disruptive.

[. . .]

A week before, an 82-year-old man was arrested at a similar meeting after making comments to Howell after he had been ejected from the meeting by Snyder for talking briefly with a companion.

At the same meeting, Snyder ejected a woman who said “amen” after the Pledge of Allegiance.

Wow. Just stay seated quietly, with your hands folded and your mouth shut. That would go over real big at some of the public meetings we have here. Amen.
