We deserve this break

It was Judge Gideon J. Tucker (not mark Twain) who said, "No man's life, liberty or property are safe when the legislature is in session." He would have approved of this:

The Indiana General Assembly might adjourn for the year as soon as March 9, five days earlier than its mandatory adjournment date.

House Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis, told representatives Thursday he's been reviewing pending legislation with Senate President David Long, R-Fort Wayne, and barring any surprises an early adjournment appears likely.

Five days isn't much, but let's be grateful. That's five days when no mischief is possible. I'd like to see them return to the every other year schedule before they had the long- and short-session rotation. They pass a two-year budget, so they don't really need to meet in the off-year. Wouldn't it be nice to go a whole year with no new laws or tweaking of old ones?
