Just when we think we're making headway against eminent domain, here it comes again:
Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Director Kyle Hupfer stated eminent domain would be “rarely used” in development of the trail system, but did not rule it out. “It will be used only when a few parcels of land are needed to complete a major trail corridor,” he said. A copy of the trail plan can be viewed at www.in.gov/dnr/2006trailsummit.
The Farm Bureau guy who is warning farmers to be on the lookout for land grabs makes an indisputable point: "They are not making any more land." But, hey, who cares if we lose a few more acres of farmland if it enables people to, you know, get out there and reconnect with nature. Make sure we put stuff along the trails to make the hikers feel at home, though, like a Starbucks or two.
