He just doesn't give up, does he?
INDIANAPOLIS -- The chairman of the Senate education committee, who last year unsuccessfully sought the teaching of creationism in schools, now wants public schools to have the option of beginning each day with the Lord's Prayer.
Sen. Dennis Kruse, R-Auburn, has filed a bill that would allow school districts to require the recitation of the Lord's Prayer, though individual students could opt out if they or their parents preferred.
Note that word require and the ability of students to opt out. Nothing like creating an instant band of students who will feel shunned and shamed. This is about as blatantly unconstitutional as it gets (which President Pro Tem David Long has noted), so I don't know what Kruse's deal is. He hasn't given up on creationism, either, announcing a plan to introduce a "truth in education bill." Theoretically, students could challenge something a teacher said about anything, but it's pretty clear he just wants them to push back on evolution.
Maybe he just wants to see how far he can go with the GOP having overwhelming majorities in both House and Sentate. So far, there seems to be an outbreak of sanity in the chilly reception Kruse's ideals are receiving.
