Sadly, it was probably the right thing do do:

Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller is putting a deputy in Washington to monitor proposed bills and regulations that could affect Indiana.

Zoeller, a Republican, said the position is needed because of a growth in federal activity that affects states.

“In recent years we have seen increasing federal government expansion into the states’ zone of legal authority,” Zoeller said in a news release. “A physical presence at the Capitol succeeds better in dealing with the federal government than sending a letter.”

Actually, it's pretty amazing it wasn't done a long time ago. I don't know what he means by "increasing federal government expansion into state's zone of legal authority" -- we crossed that bridge a long time ago. Our Washington monitor probably won't accomplish much beyond getting word to Indiana faster on federal mischief, but it's still a good idea to let the usurping thugs we're keeping an eye on them.
