GARY, Ind. -- The city of Gary doesn't have a movie theater, so it is plans to show a pair of movies Friday at Marquette Park near Lake Michigan and is looking at making it a monthly event.
Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson says the goal is provide a fun night for families.
I know Gary is a distressed city, but it still has about 80,000 people. That's not enough to support a single movie theater?
On the other hand, Fort Wayne no longer has a Hardee's, an MCL or a Hooters, and that seems almost criminal for a city this size, so maybe I shouldn't judge so quickly. (MCL still in Indy, in case you want a nostalgic trip through the cafeteria line the next time you're there.)
