Wendy "It's never too late for an abortion" Davis has suddenly started speaking out in favor of open carry in an apparent effort to sound less blue and more red to gun-rights-supporting Texas voters. You know, I just don't believe her. But here is a woman whose Second Amendment sincerity I do not doubt for a second:
COLUMBIA, SC — S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley said Tuesday that she backs a proposal that would make it legal for most South Carolinians to carry guns – concealed or in the open – without a permit or the training that the state currently requires.
Haley made her comments after she signed into law a bill that allows gun owners with licenses to carry concealed weapons into businesses that serve alcohol – restaurants and bars – as long as they do not drink alcohol and the businesses did not bar guns.
The only thing I do doubt is the wisdom of dropping the requirement for training. It's always bothered me that Indiana grants carry permits -- now even lifetime permits -- without people having to demonstrate any knowledge at all about guns or how to handle them. They don't even go that far in gun-loving Texas.
Smart woman, though. Hope her name starts turning up when the political class looks at potential presidential contenders among Republican governors.
