I have a spectacularly lousy record of political predictions, so take that into account, but I think the ship has sailed on this possibility, Gov. Pence:
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence says national Republicans have reached out to him about running for president in 2016.
“We’ve had people reach out,” Pence told Howey Politics Indiana, an influential political news website. “We’re very fortunate to have friends around the country who appreciate the leadership we’re providing here.”
It's not that I don't think he's qualified to get the Republican nomination. He is very good at walking that narrow line between fiscal and social conservatism, a talent I think the next nominee will need. And he should have a strong record of governance on his resume.
But there are too many more rising stars in the GOP right now who've already been getting their names out there -- the Rand Pauls and Ted Cruzes and Marco Rubios -- and there are governors on the list, too. I think his time came and went.
