Don't need no stinkin' permit

I've mention a few times year that Indiana has even looser gun laws than Texas. Well, Kansas now has both of us beat:

Kansans soon can carry concealed weapons without permits or training under a bill signed by Gov. Sam Brownback on Thursday.

The new law, which kicks in July 1, makes Kansas the sixth state to allow “constitutional carry.” It will allow Kansans 21 and older to carry concealed firearms regardless of whether they have obtained a permit.

Training still will be required for anyone who wants to carry a concealed gun in the 36 states that accept Kansas permits.

Brownback touted the importance of training, explaining that his youngest son took a hunter safety course this past week.

That makes Kanas the sixth state to allow "constitutional carry," based on the premise that you shouldn't need a permission slip from the government for something that's a constitutional right. I don't need a permit to exercise my freedom of speech, and we don't need government approval to exercise our religious rights. (Of course if we claim a tax exemption, the government gets to tell us if we're a real church or not, which has always seemed a little off to me, but let's save that for another day).

The permit-free carry doesn't bother me much, but I'm a little bothered by the lack of training (as I am about the same lack here). The most troubling part of the law is that it affects onl;y those 21 and older. Doesn't make much sense to let kids enlist at 18 and risk their lives (while carrying guns) but not consider them adult enough for concealed carry.

Oh, and the usual anti-gun crowd is raising all the usual anti-gun objections, so let's just pretend I responded with the usual reasons why they'r wrong.
