A bemusing interlude

Gov. Daniels discovers a way to get even worse press:

Gov. Mitch Daniels paused during a recent news conference to lecture reporters on the proper way to ask questions.

Daniels said he was "bemused" by media types who ask about the practical and controversial details of his proposals rather than the wonderful reasons he has for offering them.

During the scolding, Daniels did praise (and likely horrify) one reporter for, he said, asking "the question just the right way." In that case, Daniels was pleased that the reporter asked about welfare "modernization" rather than using the more ominous-sounding "privatization."
Perhaps people who lecture those whose job it is to use words should choose their own words more carefully. I do not think "bemused" means what the governor thinks it means. He wanted "amused."
