Donald trumped

I'm no fan of Donald Trump -- he has the potential to single-handedly wreck the GOP presidential primary. But in his current fight with NBC, I'm on his side:

“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values,” NBC said in a statement. “Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.”

The network will no longer air the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants that were part of a joint venture with Trump, the statement added.

And just what "deragatory remarks" did he utter about Mexican immigrants? Well, for one thing he dared called them illegal, which, you know, they are. And then this:

"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best," he said. "They're not sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

OK, not very artfully said, and exaggerated in a way Trump excels at -- there might be a few good people but they're mostly scum. But he's right that illegal immigration is a huge problem that nobody, of either party, seems willing to deal with. It's looking like the GOP primary, in fact, will be an exercise in avoiding issues, and this is at the top of the list. I criticized Ted Cruz in an earlier post, so I'll give him the last (good) word here:

.  . . I think he’s brash, I think he speaks the truth. and I think NBC is engaging in political correctness that is silly and that is wrong. I don’t think you should apologize for speaking out about the problem that is illegal immigration,” Cruz said.
