Granted that you can't even run for president without hubris, narcissism and even a touch of I-am-the-center-of-the-universe solipsism, President Obama abuses the privilege. After extolling the virtues of term limits for a chief executive in a speeech in Ethiopia, he goes on to say:
Now, let me be honest with you . . . I love my work. But under our Constitution I cannot run again . . . I actually think I'm a pretty good president. I think if I ran, I could win. But I can't. So there's a lot I'd like to do to keep American moving, but that's the law. And, no one person is above the law, not even the president.
Let's skip over the ridiculous (keep American moving) and the absurd (no one is above the law) and go right for the stunning -- "I could win a third term." Alas, I think he's probably right. The fact that he did what he did in the first term and still wond a second term is one of the biggest shocks I've ever had in politics. If he could win a second term, anything can happen, including him winning a third term.
Hell, even Hillary winning isn't beyond the realm of posssibility, despite Republicans having teh strongest field in my lifetime and the Democrats having to run while the country is in the mess it's in. If there's a way to screw things up, the GOP can usually find it.
