Adding and subtracting

You want to see what the future looks like?

According to figures released by the Internet Advertising Bureau earlier this month, online now accounts for more than 10 per cent of overall advertising spending, up from 7.2 per cent a year ago, and is expected to match spending on television campaigns by the end of the decade.

I don't think anybody really knows what this will mean or how it will shake out. Will we see the breaking of the age-old link of information and advertising? Or will things settle down online and start to look like all the other media? Millions of advertising dollars are flowing to the Internet, but good business models are still a little scarce. People go to specific places online to buy things, like amazon and eBay, but the ads that are scattered throughout the information content are still mostly seen as nuisances to be avoided.
