Well, call me skeptical:
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 62% of voters would prefer fewer government services with lower taxes. Nearly a third (29%) disagrees and would rather have a bigger government with higher taxes. Ten percent (10%) are not sure.
People may say that to a pollster, but there isn't much evidence they're actually voting that way. I mean, just look at the clowns in Washington now, Republicans and Democrats alike, who voted for that monstrously bloated farm bill.
And when you starting asking people which government services should be cut, it tends to be government services other people get, not them. You know, cut out all that lousy pork-barrel spending, but let's be sure to vote our guy back in so he can get us all those earmarks.
The same poll had this:
Finally, nearly half of voters (47%) say American's best days have come and gone. That number has not changed since last month. Thirty-nine percent (39%) of voters think the nation's best days are still to come.
Our best days are created by people who feel enabled and energized by the freedom to act they're allowed in this country. Thirty-nine percent is probably enough to get the job done, but no slacking off, people! You have to do extra to make up for the 47% who are idiots.
