We expect Republicans and Democrats to reach agreement on something as big and controversial as property tax reform, and they can't even get together on something as small and universally desired as vote centers:

But the House approved a version of the bill that also allows voters to cast absentee ballots by mail without giving an excuse - a provision Senate Republicans oppose. Under current Indiana law, anyone voting absentee by mail must meet certain provisions, such as working through voting hours.
I can think of a compromise; I wonder if it came up: Have the vote centers open for several days, perhaps a four-day weekend from Friday through Monday. That would cut way down on the number of people who can't fit voting into their schedules.
