The Indiana Department of Agriculture and the Indiana Farm Bureau are on the wrong side of this issue, and any members involved in the behind-the-scenes efforts to smear the Human Society of the United States should be ashamed of themselves.
Indiana Department of Agriculture officials have been working behind the scenes to defeat legislation that would crack down on abusive dog breeders by trying to discredit one of the bill's leading supporters.
Their target: the Humane Society of the United States.
Although the department has taken no official position on the legislation, it acknowledges it has highlighted the Humane Society's history of opposition to confined farming practices, common in Indiana, especially in huge hog operations where animals are raised in close quarters.
Certainly the Humane Society may be against confined farming and other practices agricultural interests here support, but that's not the same as wanting to "abolish all animal agricultures." In any case, it has absolutely nothing to do with cruelty to dogs. Nobody wants to be seen in favor of that, which is why the cowardly whispering campaign is resorted to. Despicable.
