This is disheartening:
Only a slight majority of American adults believe capitalism is better than socialism, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.
Asked whether capitalism or socialism is a better system, 53% of American adults cited capitalism, 20% said socialism and 27% said they weren't sure.
It's tempting to think that is is just a blip caused by the economy -- that, in the middle of a bad recession, it's natural for people to doubt the economic system. But our economy has so much socialism woven into the capitalism now that perhaps people are just responding to what they know. The more wealth is "spread around," the less appreciation people have for what it actually takes to create it.
