In the spirit

Oh, no, something strange is happening to me. I feel like I must have sinned, but only against myself. Have I been this way before, I wonder? As long as I stay with members of my own group caste, I think everything will be fine. What will -- Dear God! get that hamburger away from me!

INDIANAPOLIS - A Hindu chaplain gave the opening prayer in the Indiana Senate in what is believed to be a first for the chamber.

Rajan (RA-zhan) Zed of Reno, Nev., read Hindu scripture passages Thursday, reciting them in Sanskrit and then English as senators stood with heads bowed. The passages urged lawmakers to do work with the welfare of others in mind.

Oh, OK, now I understand why opening a legislative session with prayer is wrong and dangerous. All is understood; I'm ready for Nirvana now.

Or at least Pearl Jam.
