When I heard about this on the radio, I was prepared to be outraged on behalf of my Appalachian relatives, because the announcer flubbed it a little and said Iran had banned "country and western" music. Turns out that nation's president has banned all Western music, which would include the Eagles, Aaron Copeland and everything in between. See what we're fighting against, all you faint-hearted terrorism appeasers? Except for rap (see below), the West has accumulated a body of music that has made the world a much better place.
This just in: A human rights group alleges that the U.S. has used rap music by Eminem and Dr. Dre to torture prisoners in Afghanistan. Forget water-boarding, forced nudity, sleep deprivation and all teh rest. This really is unacceptably inhumane treatment.
