We can't let those dimwitted, know-nothing voters have referendums on tax issues. All they care about is their own pocketbooks. They'd never vote for anything that costs money. Well, maybe, maybe not:
Referendums seeking millions of dollars in additional funding passed easily Tuesday in numerous central Indiana school districts.
Voters in Washington Township, Pike Township, Speedway, Carmel Clay and Noblesville approved higher tax rates to help prevent teacher cuts or support building projects.
They didn't just pass -- they passed "easily." A couple of them were promised to be "tax neutral," so that gave voters and incentive to say yes, but the rest were just straighforward requests. Carmel Clay voters voted 58 percent to 42 percent for a hike that will add $210 a year to the taxes on a median-priced home. In Speedway, 86 percent of voters said yes.
Taxpayers don't always want less or cheaper. They want value for their money. Give them a reasonable request with clearly explained justfications, and there's a good chance they'll say yes.
