Evan Bayh takes a final courageous stand on a tough issue before leaving office:

No wonder we'll miss him and his deep-seated knowledge of Indiana. Who among his would-be successors have enough Hoosier sense to congratulate the state team that made it to the final NCAA game?
And permit me to be a bipartisan cynic today. "This unforgettable Butler tream showed the world how basketball should be played," said Gov. Mitch Daniels, "but Indiana was already famous for that." A nod of appreciation with geopolitical dimensions and historical perspective. Send that man to Washington!
