Till we drop

People still shop without their computers, walking around and going into actual stores?

Forbes' first-ever ranking of the best U.S. cities for shopping says Indianapolis has the kind of numbers that makes retail sparkle.

Forbes' list ranks Indianapolis at No. 5, with 5,955 retail locations, 18 shopping centers and a 7 percent sales tax. Forbes credits the offerings from Castleton Square Mall, the largest in the state with over 130 stores.

Just kidding, all you wonderful merchants. Actually, Christmas shopping in Indy is a tradition for many Hoosiers. In the early years of my marriage, I accompanied my wife's family on their yearly treks from Marion to Block's and L.S. Ayres, the big, multi-story department stores in downtown Indianapolis. Turning the trips into all-day family excursions made them something to look forward to.
